Re: Has anyone installed Linux on a Lenovo E590?

Thanks a lot, ab71e5 ! That's great info to have! I have been so busy I have not tried the usb with Mint yet but I still plan to soon, so this came at a great time! (before I decide to install Mint on my e590) Will definitely try the USB first and then if it doesn't work will look for the firmware u...

Re: Has anyone installed Linux on a Lenovo E590?

I believe that if the live disk works then that is a very strong indication that a full install will also work. The full install might not work with complete satisfaction out of the box when loaded, but in many, many cases it will. In the cases that it does not work immediately on install then I th...

Re: Has anyone installed Linux on a Lenovo E590?

Have you tried running Mint from a live disk? That might highlight any issues you are facing if you install it . The same would be true of any other Distribution you might like to try if Mint presented insurmountable issues running live. If nothing Linux seemed to work then you could always keep Wi...

Re: Has anyone installed Linux on a Lenovo E590?

Hi wannabelinuxguy, have you thought dual booting? https://linuxmint-installation-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/multiboot.html Jon My goal is to GET RID OF WINDOWS 10 completely from my computer! After buying my Lenovo, 5 days later Windows updated and completely stopped working! I could not use S...

Re: Has anyone installed Linux on a Lenovo E590?

Unfortunately I didn't check before buying my Lenovo because I wrongly assumed that ANY Windows computer could run Linux. But then after buying it and hearing of some issues with Linux, I went to Lenovo's list of compatible computers and found it's not listed there. I also saw an article that says t...

Re: Has anyone installed Linux on a Lenovo E590?

Thanks. I could surely forge ahead.
But I'd still like to know if anyone has done it with my model of Lenovo because I've heard of some issues due to the way Lenovo makes their computers. I think it might help avoid some headaches if I find someone who's done it.

Re: Is a software like this available for MINT?

I also have 'ADR' setup as my home Address. I noticed real fast that using lowercase to trigger that macro is a major PITA. If I understand you correctly you are saying that "adr" would be triggered by many words so you make it all caps? What I do with my Windows macro utility is write it out "addr...

Has anyone installed Linux on a Lenovo E590?

Lenovo's page re compatibility does not list the E590 as compatible but I am not sure why because a few people seem to have done so with only minor issues. I despise W10 and want to erase it from my new Lenovo E-590 so am looking for feedback from people who may have tried to do it. If you've done i...

Re: New Linux Mint install - bluetooth not working right

Now we're getting beyond my abilities to help. Hopefully someone else may know something to try. Thanks much for your help. At least I got it working on Linux, and it's only the going back and forth between W7 and Mint that cause the problem. Would like to solve it, of course, but meanwhile at leas...

Re: New Linux Mint install - bluetooth not working right

I did as you suggested, shut down Linux (where Unify bluetooth receiver was working fine). I also turned off the Bluetooth device. And then I started the computer into Windows 7, and when I got there I turned on Spotify to play through the W7 speakers. Then I turned on the bluetooth Unify device and...

Re: New Linux Mint install - bluetooth not working right

Okay, first some info - not sure what it means but it must mean something... Then following that I have pasted the info you requested from the terminal while running Unify bluetooth unit. (Unify is now working, but ... this:) Okay, so deleting the files in /home/username/.config/pulse then running p...

Re: New Linux Mint install - bluetooth not working right

Okay. When I play a YouTube video, it shows 44100 as the sample rate, which is my default setting. As yours was showing 48000 (which is my alternate sample rate) I was thinking you may have changed the defaults, and I've seen issues like this from those changes in the past. Once I see those outputs...

Re: Is a software like this available for MINT?

Hi wannabelinuxguy, You are welcome... Fortunately, new DVD/CD writer burners are reasonably priced around $20us-30us and even Blu-Ray DVD burners are reasonably priced now as well. I have an older USB DVD burner that works well in Linux. I recommend getting one with "m-disc" capability. Thanks for...

Re: New Linux Mint install - bluetooth not working right

Thanks for the persistence on this. It says "Buletooth" because the bluetooth adapter that it refers to is labeled "Buletooth" [sic]. I am pretty sure the manufacturer did this not me. This is a unit that has a 3.5 mini plug (headphone plug) and if you plug it into an analog external speaker without...

Re: Is a software like this available for MINT?

Hi wannabelinuxguy, You are welcome... I already gave you links on using AutoKey. Autokey is very easy to use for automatically inserting text based on an abbreviation or hotkey, see screenshots. Click a category "folder" name or create a new category "folder" name and then click that, then click t...

Re: New Linux Mint install - bluetooth not working right

Let's see if this gives us anything we can work with. Start a YouTube video then run pacmd list-sinks in the terminal. Paste the output here. Just in case, also get the output of pacmd list-cards as well. Thanks for your help! Here's the results of the terminal commands: 2 sink(s) available. index:...

Re: Is a software like this available for MINT?

Hi wannabelinuxguy, I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well. +1 for "Autokey" which I have been using for years and does exactly what you said you want to do. This is such an indispensable tool for me that I have it start whenever I log in. Beginners G...

Re: New Linux Mint install - bluetooth not working right

Hi wannabelinuxguy. Are you running Firefox through firejail? If so, try running firecfg --fix-sound in the terminal and see if that fixes the issue. Okay, will try it tomorrow. Thanks. But I don't think I am running firejail. What is that? How do I know if I am? And should I run the command anyway...

Re: Is a software like this available for MINT?

If I were to use Thunderbird, would I have access to my email and to reply to emails via my phone? Yes, what you do on your computer does not have any bearing on what you do on your phone. You can use Thunderbird as an email client with any email provider that offers POPmail or IMAP. If your curren...

[SOLVED] New questions re Updating Mint

Okay so I had some 70 updates and some of them failed, quite a few. It asked if I wanted to continue anyway and I said yes. I guess I was correct in assuming that was the correct response. It seems the main reasons for failures (in most of the 30-40 or so cases) were: Unable to correct missing packa...
