How do I make a .deb package? Do I use checkinstall?

I built the latest or atleast newer versions of VLC media player, Nomacs and Gimp against Bionic Beaver (Mint 19x series) libraries. I want to make .deb packages of them. From what I heard I must get all the dependencies, ./configure , make and checkinstall --install=no However it's not creating the...

Re: VLC media player source build - Libpulse-dev might need to be static linked.

I just found out the pulse-effects PPA had the version of libpulse-dev I needed. I am now compiling VLC media player 3.0.11 against Bionic's libraries and seeing if it will resolve the bug I am having.

UPDATE IT WORKED. I had compiled the latest version of VLC media player on Bionic!

Sorry I called it an LTS. That was an error. I am aware of the release cycle.

Ubuntu Cinnamon 20.10

I am currently on Mint 19x and If all goes accordingly I plan I'll be switching to Ubuntu 20.10 LTS Cinnamon remix after it's release in October 2020. I just hope my custom Cinnamon + Caja setup works. The reason being is that LTS distros are heavily out of date with packages and even though finding...

Re: blender software update

Check if someone made a PPA. If not just use the binary they provide on the official website.

Disiable the PPA after you get done updating.

Re: Gimp crashes at "copy" of image

I have solved the problem for myself regarding the gimp and copyq Disable images from saving to the clipboard. Super Key + Z brings up copyq as a keyboard shortcut. Ctrl V and paste the image into the clipboard manually. CopyQ will still store images that I tell it to store. It just has to be done ...

Re: [TIPS] Keyboard Shortcuts for NOOBS

I have several dozen user defined keyboard shortcuts. I don't know how I'd live without them. I also give gimp, terminal, my text editor and libreoffice custom shortcuts as well. IMO what makes good software is the ability for the user to set their own keyboard shortcuts.

Re: LM20 Nemo slower than LM19.3 Nemo in common navigation

Imo, Nemo is a failure and it is ruining the quality of the Cinnamon Desktop.

Learn how to replace Nemo with Mate's file manager "Caja" with my guide below. It will work on 20/20.04

Re: Nemo thumbnail generation is inferior in Mint 20

I have folders that contain many (1,300 for example) large images (1 to 30 MB). In Mint 19, when I open one of the folders mentioned above, it doest he following: Nemo quickly creates a rough blurry thumbnail for everything. This only takes a few seconds, and then it seems to go back and update the...

Re: Why not make Linux Mint be a 10 year project on all distro

This every 6 month upgrade is murder.....You then have to reset all your settings for programs you already set over again.... Everything looks the same at every upgrade....nothing has really changed ,but the background and the version number of the distro of the system. export the /home/username/.c...

Disable ClamAV anti virus on startup

I have ClamAV installed. I want it, however I do not want it to run 24/7 or on startup as it uses an enormous amount of RAM. I checked StartUp Applications and even enabled hidden processes and could not find it. How do I disable this program from running on startup? ClamAV and ClamFresh are the two...

Re: Gimp crashes at "copy" of image

If Krita or xnview (qt programs) is open copyq crashes when attempting to paste images on LibreOffice and Gimp on Mint 19x (bionic).

This does not happen with qt programs like Nomacs.

Re: Gimp crashes at "copy" of image

Same problem here. Gimp crashes on ctrl+c. Using LM20 and Nvidia. Edit: Looks like it is a conflict with CopyQ. Shutting down CopyQ while working with Gimp solved my problem. Hold on a second, I use CopyQ on 19x (bionic) and am heavily dependent on it. From what I read about that bug it's QT progra...

why try to 'copy' ??

load the image, and use Shift-Ctrl-E to Export the image in any format you wish.
that has never failed for me.
This post triggered me because copying from a clipboard manager is a major part of my workflow.

Perhaps this might provide inspiration: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1062049/how-to-enable-wifi-toggle-key-f12 (Stevin Jed's answer looks the most likely to me). If it does, let us know which script works for you. Thank you #!/bin/sh if [ $(nmcli radio wifi | awk '/led/ {print}') = 'enabled' ] ;...

Enable and Disable a command with the same keyboard shortcut

nmcli radio wifi on (Enables wifi) nmcli radio wifi off (Disables wifi) I want to set them to one keyboard shortcut. Is there a way to make a script where pressing a shortcut once disables wifi and the second time enables it? I'm sure this is possible but I don't know how to do it. The goal is to ke...
