Re: 'Bootup is not yet finished Please try again later' plymouth-quit-wait.service keeps running

Thanks Damien I did as you suggested and so far, all good. So that seemed to work. I'll keep an eye on the boot/shutdown and if no more problems I'll mark this solved. Just for my own curiosity, could any of those cleaning commands that I ran deleted something I needed? Just wondering why this probl...

'Bootup is not yet finished Please try again later' plymouth-quit-wait.service keeps running

Mint Cinnamon 19.2 I'm having intermittent slow boot ups and slow shut downs. When I run $ systemd-analyze I'll sometimes get this message: Bootup is not yet finished. Please try again later. Then if I run systemctl list-jobs I get this: JOB UNIT TYPE STATE 105 plymouth-quit-wait.service start runni...

Re: [SOLVED] Can't record sound with Kazam screen recorder

I solved my sound problem, as I described in my 1st post. The solution was so simple I don't even want to mention it :D What I did to fix the 'no sound' in a Kazam screen recording was to run Kazam, then under file>preferences>general tab...next to the Speaker input field, I clicked on the speaker i...

[SOLVED] Can't record sound with Kazam screen recorder

Mint 19.2 Cinnamon on an old Dell Optiplex 780... My sound always works (for videos, music, etc), I wanted to screen record a short Youtube video using Kazam and I can capture the video, but there's no sound on the recording. I read about some different solutions but wasn't sure if they fit my syste...

Re: Is it OK to install Thunar with Nemo on Mint Cinnamon 19.2

Thanks, I had already did a manual Timeshift save right before upgrading to the newest version of my kernel series. Though I excluded my home and root directories. I back up my files manually to a second drive. I'm not worried that installing Thunar will brick my system, I'm just wondering about the...

Is it OK to install Thunar with Nemo on Mint Cinnamon 19.2

I want to have a bulk file renaming option, in my Nemo file manager. I read this article about how to do that and it suggest installing Thunar for it's bulk file ability. https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1935 My question is: even though the article says having Thunar along with Nemo isn...

if something got "lost", use the + button to replace it
Thanks, that does looks like the only way I can do it. I'm not sure if I even needed those missing entries anyway. It's just weird they disappeared but my system and printer still seem to work OK.

I'll mark this Solved.

Re: What's the terminal command for updating Startup Applications list?

Yes I do have Timeshift restore points, so I just now did that. It went well and as expected I had to reapply some system updates, but unfortunately it didn't change System Applications app list back to what it was...it's still the same. At least I know how to use Timeshift if I ever need that again...

Re: Moving GRUB to second Mint install

I entered those commands as you suggested and it seemed to work. The terminal said this:

Code: Select all

Installing for i386-pc platform.
Installation finished. No error reported.
I rebooted and all went fine. I assume the GRUB is now associated with Mint on SDA (the SSD). Thanks for the help.

Moving GRUB to second Mint install

Two different Mint Cinnamon 19.2, installed on an old Optiplex 780. First was installed on a big HD, later I installed the second one on a smaller SSD. I want the GRUB to be associated with Mint on the SSD, as I plan on removing the 1st Mint on the big HD. How do I confirm which copy of Mint has con...

Re: Image preview is not available in folder view

I don't have an image preview on the right side when clicking on an image file on my system (19.2 Cinnamon with Nemo file manager). The only time I see an image preview is when I upload an image and click on the file, then I get an image preview. Maybe you previously had a different file manager tha...

Re: [SOLVED] Can't delete .mp4 video film from Seagate drive backup

Update: After doing more reading I believe I caused this problem by deleting the $ Recycle.Bin from the NTFS volume of my Seagate external drive. Once I did that I couldn't delete any files from it. So I solved this by backing up the files and then reformatting to ext4. No problems now.

Re: I want to change Linux Mint to Windows 7

Hello, a newbie here. A week ago I was using windows 7 and booted my computer Linux Mint then deleted windows. If you deleted Windows during installation of Mint then you won't get Windows back. You might be able to get a legal ISO of Windows 7 from Microsoft, but not if your computer came with Win...

Re: Can't delete .mp4 video film from Seagate drive backup

I tried this in terminal: cd .local/share/Trash/ cd files rm -rf * It removed deleted files that I had trashed in documents, but it didn't remove the delted files from seagates trash. I tried this as suggested: sudo umount /dev/sdg1 sudo ntfsfix -b -d /dev/sdg1 It unmounted the seagate but when I re...

Re: Can't delete .mp4 video film from Seagate drive backup

I took a guess and entered this into terminal: sudo ntfsfix -b -d /dev/sdg1 [sudo] password for k: Refusing to operate on read-write mounted device /dev/sdg1. I don't know if I typed that correctly or what? but it said it can't read-write the mounted device and that's the type of error was getting w...

Re: Can't delete .mp4 video film from Seagate drive backup

Thanks for the replies... I tried renaming the file but the rename option was greyed out, so couldn't do it.
