Re: [SOLVED] Cinammon alongside MATE and removing default XFCE

Oh BTW, I tried the Cinnamon DE on my PC as well, works perfectly with a little bit of delay, not lagging or anything, it's fine, things are just a tad slow. Not too bad though. So yeah, it works despite the fact that I have only 2 GB of RAM.

Re: [SOLVED] Cinammon alongside MATE and removing default XFCE

Hello again! Sorry for the long delay.

So, I did exactly as you told me, restarted my PC to make sure everything works, and sure enough, I got the wanted results!
Thank you for your assistance.

Re: Cinammon alongside MATE and removing default XFCE

I'm not sure what you are waiting for then - fire up a terminal and run apt install mint-meta-mate Log out, lock back into the MATE session, post back when you decide you are happy enough with MATE to attempt the XFCE removal. Well, I have been using MATE for a while now and it seems comfy to me. S...

Re: Cinammon alongside MATE and removing default XFCE

Hello again! About the timeshift part, I don't really think I need a snapshot. Since I have nothing really installed on Linux Mint. So yeah, I am willing to push on regardless of the consequences, if you kindly could, of course. I'm awaiting your response, and thank you for responding. Regards, Davi...

Re: Cinammon alongside MATE and removing default XFCE

Well, the problem lies in the fact that I tried to actually install MATE because that's what I mainly wanted. Is "the problem" that you installed MATE[sic] and it broke the system? (The meta package or something else?) The various desktop environments don't play nice with each other because the und...

Re: Cinammon alongside MATE and removing default XFCE

Removing XFCE would require a bit of package management surgery, so I'd suggest starting with a fresh Mate or Cinnamon install and then adding the other DE. With LightDM/Slickgreeter in default settings and a multi DE install the default is always the last one logged into. No matter how you start y...

[SOLVED] Cinammon alongside MATE and removing default XFCE

Hello, everyone! It's been a while! So I've installed Linux Mint 19.2 XFCE 32-bit on my old PC. And I'd love to know the following: 1- Where to get the Cinammon desktop environment? 2- How to make the MATE Desktop environment the default one and get rid of the XFCE one? And that is all, thank you! I...

Hey there,

I think you'd have a better chance to get meaningful answers if you started a dedicated thread for your bluetooth problem.

Bye ! :)
Thank you! But how do I do so?

Re: Linux Mint on an ancient PC? [SOLVED]

Alright, here's the whole process and the aftermath. I downloaded Linux Mint 19.2, the XFCE version, and I had to start the Live session in Compatibility Mode to get it to finally work. I tried to start it in normal mode, and it gave me the same black screen I faced when I tried to install the MATE ...

Bluetooth App issue and animation not appearing on startup or shutdown

Hello! I have 2 issues at hand. I'd appreciate any effort to help. The first one is major, whenever I type something as my Bluetooh device name, the window freezes (when I type the first letter) for a few minutes before everything is finally inserted into the box. Is there anything that can fix this...

[SOLVED] Booting Linux Mint from the Windows bootloader?

Hello! I need a few instructions from you guys, as experts. So, imagine having a Windows 7 laptop, and I need to install Linux Mint on that laptop to make a dual-boot system. Yet, I need to keep Windows 7's bootloader, since, I'm not a fan of Mint's default GRUB bootloader, and the way it works. (I ...

Re: Linux Mint on an ancient PC?

David, In my past life (retired now) I used to be a software developer. Very likely, the devs drop support for older machines to: a. include features needed for the newest machines that are incompatable with older machines and b. prevent bloating as has happened in the MS product. I don't know wher...

Re: Linux Mint on an ancient PC???

One of the [many] benefits of using Linux is the inherent backward-compatibility for older hardware. ... Actually that's not true, Linux has very little backwards comaptibility, and it's gotten worse in newer kernels. They've been dropping support for a lot of older machines. I'd still suggest the ...

Re: Linux Mint on an ancient PC???

since that machine only has 2Gb of ram, but does have an 3Ghz CPU, then the LinuxMint Mate Desktop version, would be more suitable to use. - - the Cinnamon Desktop may be a bit too heavy, to be reliable. Thank you for responding to my issue, sir. Well, in actuality, I tried to install the MATE vers...

Re: Auto-mount feature in Linux Mint 19.2 "Tina" - Cinnamon 64-bit

That's a simple question, my friend. Any Linux Distro, according to my knowledge, is pre-equipped with a program called "Disks" which is a basic Partition Manager (similar to GParted, but it has different UI and settings). You simply choose the partition you want to modify from it, and then click on...
