Re: Tethering, Android mobile to Internet Connected Laptop

Petermint. Thanks for the reply. At least I know it is do-able. Just got to work out the how-to do-able. :D :D Any clues? My "One" is blue, bought in Dubai in 2008. My wife has the mark 2 version, in red, bought in Oman in 2009, after she got jealous of "Little Blue" and wanted one of her own....

Tethering, Android mobile to Internet Connected Laptop

Greetings. I have an Acer One netbook, running Linux 19.0 (Tara) which I connect to my router, either by Lan (cable) or WiFi. Is it possible (via WiFi) to connect an old Android mobile (Android version 4.2.2), to the internet connected laptop? I would like to repurpose the mobile as a remote device ...

Re: Laptop BIOS

Entering BIOS is normally done before the operating system loads. My Acer laptops use F2 to enter BIOS and F12 to (quick) change boot order. My Lenovo has a concealed switch on the side. These links will give you some idea of how to start the process on a Toshiba. < https://techjourney.net/ways-to-e...

Re: (Solved) What is downloading?

Thanks one and all for the advice. It looks like "flatpacks" was the culprit. Since I uninstalled the 'plumbing', the mystery downloading has stopped. Just a regular 2 or 300 Kbs, as some bits and pieces "phone home", on start up. So I've marked this as (Solved) As an aside, "Timeshift" snapshots do...

Re: What is downloading?

Also, have you emptied recycling/rubbish/trash? Try the tips on this page. https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/clean-mint.html#ID8 Yes, I always make sure the "Trash" is taken out before I shut down. I looked at the link and followed the steps to remove "Flatpacks" and associated "plumbing"...

Re: What is downloading?

More information.

Only Terminal opened manually.

After taking screenshots, the rogue download starts 5 minutes after the system finishes booting. (See attached.)

I "cold booted", took snapshots, then restarted twice, with all 3 sets of screenshots being very similar.

Re: What is downloading?

Thanks for the quick reply. I have disabled "Timeshft" now. There are 8 snapshots, so I should be good to recover. LOL! Opening 'Starting Applications' shows 23 start-ups. Most look normal (I hope), except for 3 titled "GNOME Keyring: PKCS#11 Component" "GNOME Keyring:Secret Service" "Gnome Keyring:...

(Solved) What is downloading?

Greetings one and all. Help needed, if possible. I only noticed the following, as I was concerned that I am "losing space" on my HDD. I would normally have around 70 to 80 GB free space. Now it is around 30 GB. I removed a few Timeshift backups (?) hoping I would recover some space. This has helped ...

Re: Packet Tracer Help

are you using that, instead of the ping command ?. or even Traceroute OR mtr command. - - in Terminal ?. Pierre. I think the OP wants to run the Cisco Simulator, not a ping/route tracing programme. May be wrong though. Been known to be, in the past, some time, possibly, probably. LOL! 'srobbins30' ...

Re: Mint on Win XP Laptop

Greenwellington. I'm using an Acer One Netbook AOA150 (10 y.o. at least), which was originally XP Home SP1. It's running Mint 19.0 (Tara) without any problems. When I loaded Mint, I just let the installation programme do its own thing and use the entire HDD . I tried upgrading to the latest iteratio...

Ignoring the legal and technical aspects of the matter, why would anyone want to make Linux look like Windows? Does painting a horse on the front of my car make it look like a landau? Maybe make it look like a Ferrari wanna-be? So be prepared to be mega     if you do, LOL! P...

I killed it in a fit of passion. I will get another and if I have similar problems I will be back for your advice. It was very expensive $3.88 including the shipping. I can afford to kill a few more of them to help keep my blood pressure down. Thank you. jimisbel I have a (about 10 years old) USB) ...

I can't find instructions for removing Xeoma. Installed it and looked at what files it places. It installs in /usr/local/Xeoma so you can delete the program by deleting that directory entirely. With this command: sudo rm -rvf /usr/local/Xeoma It also installs a bunch of files in your home directory...
