Re: Full backup image?

For me windows 10 takes under 15 minutes I believe just to get it installed from a usb drive, afterward, I just use windows update and get them all, while its doing that I start doing the setting things, I turn everything off, after that, I just install Chrome with 2 extension ad blockers and I use ...

Re: list of packages that can be uninstalled

I have read a little already about it and I think I will read more after I get this Cinnamon OS to my liken, thanks ... I don't have major issues with Mint. It is a rock solid OS just that I don't need all the stuff it offers. I have done already a lot of removals and it seems to be loading pretty f...

Re: list of packages that can be uninstalled

Oh Mint will work out of the box, the experience part was about modifying the system by removing potentially vital parts. But seems you've removed what you want now, so you should be all good? You can enable automatic software updates in Update Manager's preferences by the way. Yeah, true enough. I...

Re: list of packages that can be uninstalled

Of course, and as others have suggested, you could also just leave the system as it is, at least until you're more experienced. That just it I don't care to be more experienced and no offense to you people. I just want to be able just to have a simple easy to install OS from a flash drive, desktop ...

Re: list of packages that can be uninstalled

Wow!... Okay how about this all I need is a browser, a video player, a music player and Notepad that is it, with that being said what can I uninstall? Taking that at face value I suggest you uninstall Mint and go with some minimal Linux like TinyCore , which comes at 16 MB for the system and deskto...

Re: Full backup image?

I have done many of those manually but I also use macrium reflect and it takes next to nothing but whenever I do it manually it's only an hour and a half. Mine takes so long because I roll my own kernel, customise the terminal, system fonts, install a whole heap of applications, set up my preferred...

Re: list of packages that can be uninstalled

Okay, how about this then since I'm already using Mint cinnamon can someone explain the correct procedure in uninstalling packages? I would be grateful if you can give me step by step... The packages under these areas I have no use for Graphics, Office, Universal Access and the Internet I only need ...

Now, I never need any customisations so, as I said earlier, I can perform a complete re-load inside of 30 minutes.
I have many, many customisations, use clonezilla, and can do a complete reload in well under 3 minutes.
And how long would it take you without a backup software?

Re: list of packages that can be uninstalled

Note: If you already have a Linux System booting, then you do not need to make a partition for Tiny Core! Tiny Core can run in a single directory in your existing Linux installation. To do so, at step 1, uncheck the option to "Install boot loader". At step 2, select an existing partition, and at Ste...

Re: Full backup image?

Back in my windowes days I used to do exactly as pBear did. I had a word document with every activation code, and customisation along with the order in which each program was installed. Used to take me nearly two days to get Windwoes up and running again. Now, I never need any customisations so, as...

Re: Full backup image?

Updated instructions thanks to the snapshots....... Clonezilla uses compression so you might be able to squeeze 20GB on to a 16GB, but it depends on what is on the drive, but no guarantees. The following are simple instructions for an easy, straightforward backup in Clonezilla. There are more detai...

Re: list of packages that can be uninstalled

Don't know about dumping it all for a couple extra gigabytes. If this is the case I agree with maybe starting with a distro that is lean/bare by default and not a full environment like Mint. When removing any program don't forget to follow up with sudo apt autoremove to clean up any junk left behin...

Re: list of packages that can be uninstalled

At installation your system had 300,000 files. That goes up with time. Weeding out 20 or 200 won't make ANY difference. Just let it go. If it will make you feel better, here's a list of things you can do safely to tidy up a bit. Nice, thanks... I like that list... I will have to save it for later.....

I have hundreds of links for reference. Haven't yet seen a YouTube link worth keeping.

By the way, you have to be careful about articles too. Not all sources are equal.
So true, which makes things so difficult. Why the developers can't have their own Youtube videos is beyond me
