Thanks - I'll give it a go tonight. (I'm on Australian time so it might be a while before you get a reply.)

Old ASUS laptop wifi card stopped working

Hi guys,
I'm not sure whether this is a hardware or software thing.
I've tried turning the wifi card back on but the Mint wifi button won't budge.
It could be something simple (I'm a newb) but I don't know where to start.
First hints?
Computer in signature.

Re: Multiple Microsoft Onedrive install methods - which do you prefer?

Can I just say the post a few back with 20 something lines of terminal commands is quite intimidating to a newbie like myself? I think I'll have a look at the GUI version - I just hope it doesn't take that much code. I wish there was something on the app store to just download. Please see th...

Re: Please recommend a YouTube downloader

I tried to use clipgrab but double clicked on the app image and it wouldn't open? Also, have you had any luck getting the Youtube downloader GUI to work? I know most people use command line but I'm a newbie and there was a GUI at one point. https://www.ubuntupit.com/how-to-install-and-use-youtube-dl...

Re: Is using Emacs like abandoning Mint?

Well, the wiki is telling people already in the know what it is but it's another language to me. The following is an answer I got from youtube and seems to be telling me that the payoff is not using your mouse: speed and efficiency . I guess if it was my day-job and what I was using all day every da...

Re: Is using Emacs like abandoning Mint?

Hi Eclipsenow+, really I'm not into this topic and replying because I somewhat o_O when I'd been reading the title and the rest of OP. I believe every person is free to choose the toolkit for their needs. At the same time I get the topic and the point behind the "learning Emacs is like dumping an e...

Is using Emacs like abandoning Mint?

Hi guys, I'm new to the Linux world and was thinking about different apps to use like Libreoffice and other text editors and then heard about Emacs. Then I got confused. What the? It's got what and what and what? Then I found this youtuber that said learning Emacs is like dumping an extra operating ...

kdenlive> render> format> Lossless/HQ> H264: You can edit the profile and pass acoded=flac for lossless audio. Hi guys, now that I've got Kden downloaded and installed I just realised I have no idea what the sentence above means. Being new to linux software I'm not sure if that means I need to copy...

Re: Firefox loses 250 employees - will development quality go down?

it is the only Browser that handles Bookmarks correctly. Don't panic! I'm on so many different machines - including some at work I don't own - that I use https://start.me/ (and just download to my personal hard drive each month as a backup). Bookmarks, RSS, news, notes, password hints (through my c...

One more question - what about updates?

Will Appimages automatically update or alert me when there is an update?

Re: Firefox loses 250 employees - will development quality go down?

It seems like we live in a world where change is liked just for its own sake. You can't leave things alone, you need continuous change. Some people who just look at the surface may like change but people who need to work efficiently do not want to be learning everything all over again every few mon...

Interesting. Storage is not really the issue - performance is. So it's either / or? Thanks.

Old laptop - install KdenLive or run as Appimage?

Hi all,
Appimages sound great for many reasons - but what about efficiency on an old laptop? Should I install Kden (and which version from software manager) or just have an Appimage sitting on my desktop?

Re: Firefox loses 250 employees - will development quality go down?

Nice to hear. How do you use their notes features? I don't know if I would feel comfortable going into full Evernote / Onenote / Keep mode with a browser - because Browsers seem to be things that can change and suddenly need to switch. Do they have a backup function for your notes so you can downloa...

Re: Firefox loses 250 employees - will development quality go down?

Good! Nice to see some loyalty there. However, if Firefox have lost the loyalty of volunteer developers due to the prioritising of other widgets etc and losing focus (as the charge appears to be above - I don't know enough about all this!) - could another FOSS browser take over that brand loyalty? V...
