Re: Does Ubuntu 24.04 let you install Gdebi?

To be fair, this is the "Chat about Linux" subforum where other distros can also be discussed.
Also it's a bit relevant since Mint 22 coming this summer will be based on Ubuntu 24.04.

Re: Dialogue Window pops up when '\' key is pressed - why?

It's "quick search" just like in a normal Nemo folder.
Your desktop is also treated like a folder.
So you can "jump" to a desktop shortcut by typing its first letters.
Instead of \, try typing a letter that is the first letter of one of your desktop shortcuts.

Re: Install new texlive/luatex?

but when will Software Manager have it? That would be... never  You'll have to wait for Mint 22 in July / August. That's why it might be a reasonable idea to do the manual install. You'll have to worry about it only for a few months. Of course, if you are planning to upgrade from Mint 21.3 to ...

Re: Flatpak apps taking a very long time to load

Hello SandwormSlayer This issue and related Software Manager issues are affecting a lot of users, and we are trying to put some priority on Mint devs. Broadly speaking, Flatpak integration in SM needs a lot more work. Can you add your voice to the conversation over here on this issue? I'd appreciate...

Re: Opera Linux is yesterday's tech?

They simply remove youtube ads, in front of any local adblockers (which youtube can detect, and which then violate terms of service, so they block you until you disable them). That is not my experience with Firefox and uBlock Origin extension. Youtube is working just fine for me. Youtube started do...

Re: Sideeffect of LMDE6

I'm not anti-update, but I do hate change. Especially when change is done for change sake, and the program is something I use ever single day. Well you are in for some pain then  The GUI side of not only open source, but all software in general, is known to "change for change sake" a...

Re: Screen Scaling

Welcome to the Forum.

Not on MATE as far as I know.
The only two desktop environments with fractional scaling are Plasma and Gnome, to my knowledge.

Cinnamon has experimental fractional scaling

Re: What's with the snap packages or snapd?

Here is another case: 1. So, if I enable snapd and just install any snap packages, but don't use any snap commands or apt commands after that. Does it still replace the existing packages or update from snap in the background without me knowing? 2. If I disable snap after installing a snap package, ...

Re: Issues installing Wattman GTK as a LinuxMint Newbie

Edit the file /etc/default/grub You can do this with the following Terminal command: xed admin:///etc/default/grub Then follow the rest of the instructions. But, instead of using sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg I would use: sudo update-grub It does the same thing, but shorter and less err...

Re: Install with 1 usb?

No, you can't install it onto the live USB.
When you burn the ISO image onto the USB device, all data will be erased.
All you need is a 4GB USB stick.
If I were you, I would not risk any other data / device / SD card.
Just order the USB stick and wait.

Excellent, hopefully people will offer some help.

You might want to browse the code repositories of other Cinnamon third-party themes and look at their code commit histories, to see how they handled the changes.

Re: Install new texlive/luatex?

I guess you can just uninstall the Software Manager version and do manual install? https://tug.org/texlive/quickinstall.html
Does the latest version from its website have the fixed luatex?
(I'm a MikTeX and pdflatex user, have no idea about luatex)

Re: Issues installing Wattman GTK as a LinuxMint Newbie

Welcome to the Forum. It's natural that those commands are not accepted, because the code is outdated. Python 3.7 is no longer supported. It looks like the repository was last updated 5 years ago, and now it's archived. It's not being maintained / developed anymore. So... you should not be installin...

Re: Install python libraries

I assume it's possible to use PyEnv in a bash script? I am guessing that it's not. PyEnv switches your Python version during a Terminal session. This is done via something called "shims", they are like environment variables if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if bash scripts preserve a &quo...

Is there any up to date fast connection and with normal download size software package I can add to software center or use from terminal? No. Either old version, or big download size.
