Re: How to install RedshiftGUI ?

The Release page on Github says that it's from 2014. So that package libcurl3 probably doesn't exist anymore. I did a search on Mint 20.2: ➜ apt search libcurl3 v libcurl3-dev - v libcurl3-dev:i386 - i libcurl3-gnutls - easy-to-use client-side URL transfer library (GnuTLS flavour) i A libcurl3-gnutl...

Re: How to install Wine on Linux Mint 20/20.1/20.2 ?

Usually you can double-click an .exe Windows file, and Wine will run it automatically for you. Or right-click, and select "open with Wine".

Re: Using newest Python versions (Or: "When One plays with a Python, One usually gets bit...lol.")

Sorry, my wording was ambiguous. I meant that you - first install different versions of Python with pyenv , and then you can - select them in PyCharm easily without having to switch Python versions on the command line. I meant to say that: - using PyCharm, VS Code etc. is optional, but can make thin...

Re: Using newest Python versions (Or: "When One plays with a Python, One usually gets bit...lol.")

No, pyenv just changes where the python command points to, temporarily. You can keep switching it back and forth. After you're done using a non-system version, use pyenv global system and everything is back to normal: ➜ pyenv versions * system (set by /home/spamegg/.pyenv/version) 2.7.18 3.10-dev 3....

Re: Using newest Python versions (Or: "When One plays with a Python, One usually gets bit...lol.")

Hello Luke, You don't have to install Python 3.9 or 3.10 system-wide, in order to use them. You can use an IDE such as PyCharm that can install those on a per-project basis in a virtual environment. Alternatively you can use pyenv . You can install it here: https://github.com/pyenv/pyenv-installer H...

Re: [SOLVED] Permanent fsck solution?

Interesting, KadaitchaMan. I've been doing some experiments the last few days. Removed quiet splash to take a look at the boot more easily. If I have fsck.mode=force fsck.repair=yes then it runs at every single boot and adds 11-12 seconds without exception. I've tried it like 100 times. I installed ...

Re: Permanent fsck solution?

What you wrote unequivocally implies that putting the commands on the kernel parameter line will always slow down boot, and that is untrue. That has been my experience. I wonder why. I suppose I must be always having repairs. Anyway, good to know that it doesn't always increase boot time! I'll make...

Re: "Preview" application?

I think the feature is built into the file manager/desktop (Nemo on Cinnamon, Caja on MATE etc.) I don't think it's a separate application.

Re: Permanent fsck solution?

Er... no, absolutely wrong. If there is no error recorded in the superblocks or journal then fsck does nothing, and if there is an error recorded then it will check and repair the drive. In either case, there is no added boot time whatsoever; in the first case there is no repair, and in the second ...

Re: Mint 20.2 Boot time too long

It definitely IS the fstab file. It has to be. └─systemd-tmpfiles-setup.service @1min 33.598s +234ms └─systemd-journal-flush.service @4.616s +557ms I have seen this 90 second delay SO MANY TIMES that I'm convinced it has to do with fstab. It's almost exactly 90 seconds. It's caused by a mount/disk o...

Now that I think about it, I'm using a third party fan + heatsink. Maybe that could be part of the problem?
It's definitely possible, maybe it doesn't have good thermal contact or the size is not appropriate... I don't know.

The reason NOT to keep that edit is... the added boot time. That's it.

I believe that stopped being an option 2-3 LM major versions ago. :) tune2fs is what I use now.
Really? OK my bad then. Yes tune2fs is the other option, I should have mentioned that.

Re: CPU Temperature While Playing YouTube Video

If it's idling at 40s, then the other temperatures seem reasonable. Using an external monitor can add up to 10 degrees (I used to have dual monitors). Moreover it's weak integrated graphics on the CPU, which is inside a tiny laptop case with poor cooling. Then add multitasking on top of that... Also...

I never change the default mirrors to local ones no matter where I am. Is the fastest one called EvoWise by any chance? Many report that it's quite unreliable despite appearing fast.
