Re: Copy /home directory to fresh install?

Thanks or the replies all41 and gm10.
I was hoping to save some configuration time but I think I rather prefer to keep things neat and tidy.

Hadn't thought of restoring the .hidden files one at a time. I may try a few and see how it goes. Thanks for the tip.

[Solved] Copy /home directory to fresh install?

Hello, Long time Mint user here. About to do a 'fresh' or 'clean' install of Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon 64bit V2 on my Acer laptop which is currently dual booting Mint 18.3 and Manjaro. My question is: will there be any deleterious effects if I make a back-up copy of my /home and then copy it over to th...

Re: SOLVED-sort of-Xfce Sloooow Shutdown

I have that same issue. Installed Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon on an Acer Aspire E5-575, Intel Core-i5, integrated graphics laptop. Everything seems to work fine except the boot time and shutdown time are unusually long. Hadn't thought of trying the Logout then Shutdown scheme. I'll give that a try. Hav...

Re: Mint 16 + OpenVPN client install

I was having the same problem. Could not stay connected. Came to these forums looking for a solution. Just tried to connect again to my VPN and all of a sudden it works! I did not change anything. I looked at my updates log and noticed a recent (1-7-14) update to Network Manager [ 2014.01.07 09:55:2...

Re: Petra 16 64bit installer crash [SOLVED]

Found this post as I was having the same problem. A poster mentioned disconnecting the net access during installation so I gave it a try. Worked like a charm! I was getting the same crash report as others have mentioned. Trying to install Linux Mint 16 64bit. Several attempts and reboots later yield...

Re: Newbie With Connection Issues

Unfortunately, without knowing anything about your setup and what may have been tried thus far it is very difficult to offer any useful suggestions. The only thing I may suggest is to be sure the router and your laptop are speaking the same language as in "WEP", "WPA", "WPA2" etc. If Linux can "see"...

Re: Frustration

....I re-download LinuxMint-7.iso thru a US link at Rose-Hulman Inst, and I also downloaded md5sum from etree.org...... . Are you sure that you are using the correct checksum? It has to be the checksum for the exact version you are downloading, e.g. 32bit or 64bit etc. As "lagagnon" has, I have als...

Re: Questions about Defragging or Antivirus? Look here first!

Nice post Kaye, thanks for taking the time. And thanks to linuxviolin for pointing out the importance of security even when running Linux. As regards using NoScript, I believe the NoScript documentation indicates that the Java and Java Script options in Firefox preferences should be enabled (checked...
