Re: Nvidia Graphics Drivers - Install Guide

After weeks of suffering with the nouveau driver removal and then LOADS of related issues, I have had to give up trying. The farce that is the nouveau/Plymouth/grub integration, is I believe, the biggest Linux backward step since the Pulse Audio cock-up a few years ago. What happened to "choice" ? I...

Re: reboot lottery Mint 11 install

There is a list of stuff, the last one is always "checking battery state.................OK" which I suspect means its bios related? Where do I find the boot log file? Pete EDIT...............This IS related to the video card, I'm moving my posts to the hardware area. There is a "bootlog viewer" in ...

reboot lottery Mint 11 install (GIVEN UP)

I have a Mint 11 install on my Intel Atom/Nvidia Ion Media PC. It has been a nightmare getting this to finally work (on occasion) due to the well documented Nvidia issues these days. Anyway, this system sometimes boots fine, other times it takes MANY re-tries to get to the login screen. Most times i...

Wrecked my desktop Mint 11 (solved)

Hi I don't know how I've done this  but the minimise/restore/close window buttons have vanished from every program/file viewer on the desktop.

I have to use Alt F4 to close them.

I'd like to get everything back to the way it was, is there a command to do this?

Can I still update Mint 8?

I'm so tired of fighting/removing the nouveau video drivers, that all Linux distos seem to have for Nvidia video cards these days, that I've been trying to find a distro that don't include them.............I can't :? So, can I install Mint 8 (pre nouveau) and be able to update it with any success? P...

Grub editing (Solved)

I (like so many others) have been having a nightmare configuring "modern" debian distro's to play happy with my Nvidia video card. Eventually I had a working system after removing the sh*te that is the Neavou video "drivers". I have just managed to upgrade this LMDE system after following all the ho...

Re: Lock up (of 3 machines) at login after update

I reinstalled yesterday and it did not go smoothly. If I allow Mint Update to apply all the required updates it will freeze when it gets to updating gdm3, which may be related to your issue. I had to use 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to fix this. I does appear to me something broke in the last couple ...

Re: Lock up (of 3 machines) at login after update

gotjaz, that other post refers to a "blank" screen, I'm getting the normal login screen but it just locks up completely after putting the normal user name in the box (the system puts it in not me). I don't get any way of getting to a terminal or shell. I only do the upgrades suggested, I don't have ...

Lock up (of 3 machines) at login after update (given up)

This has happened to 3 different PC's 2 (laptops and a netbook) running LMDE. After updating yesterday they ALL now lockup (touchpad and keyboard) at the login prompt.

Any ideas?

Re: Easy Linux Analogue Composite Video Capture - How to.

This is an update due to issues with lip sync after editing/rendering files. I have been having a few problems with lip sync AFTER editing and rendering my mpeg capture files. This seems to be a real problem for lots of people. The original captures from VLC seem fine, the problems occur after these...

Re: BluRay (BD) file playback

I have returned to mint (LMDE) and in order to get tear free playback (I have tried the compiz mods above) in "normal" video I have to use VLC and for HD playback I use Smplayer. I have no idea why this is, but suspect its the VDPAU driver (which as far as I can tell VLC is not using) that causes th...

Mint is No.1 on Distrowatch!

Just been having a look on www.distrowatch.com and saw Mint was third in the "chart". However, the default time period is the last 6 months. I selected the last 7 days and Mint is the number one distro! Well done Mint team in beating the big boys :-)
