Upgrading 13 to 14: is there any need for it?

I am Mint user for long. Although i am a distrohopper at heart, i always keep my Mint partition, which has been my working environment. I am currently using Mint 13 MATE 64, since its release, without a single glitch whatsoever. Recently, i enabled the backports repo in order to get the latest MATE ...

Re: I'm stuck in MATE without panel

Thanks. That didn't work, but i managed to edit lightdm.conf and remove the autologin user.
Anyway, i would like to know how to return MATE to its fresh install status. I suspect it has to do with adding the mint menu or adding some metacity themes.

I'm stuck in MATE without panel

I wanted to try mate, and for some reason the panel disappeared after i added mint menu to it. The problem is that i have autologin enabled and can't logout because ctrl-alt-bksp doesn't work. I don't know how either disable autologin or make the panel appear, as everything is not familiar at all. T...

Re: Moving from testing to Squeeze

Thank you, that's all i needed to know.
I still didn't change the repos because i wasn't sure it wouldn't create some issues in the future.
Mint over Debian Stable looks like a winner to me :)

Re: Moving from testing to Squeeze

Sure, but my question is, once LMDE rolls after Squeeze moves to Stable, will compability problems arise between the Mint software and "outdated" debian repos (at that time, Squeeze instead of testing, which moved out of Squeeze).

Moving from testing to Squeeze

I would like to know if i now move LMDE repos from testing to squeeze, which will become Debian Stable shortly, there will be any future problems between Debian Stable and Mint software, as LMDE will remain on Testing.

Re: Which Mint for 256MB RAM and Pentium III?

I have Mint LXDE runnind on a 10 year old AMD Duron 1200 with 512 MB RAM and, besides working perfectly, is faster than the windows XP it replaced. I didn't try XFCE there, but i think it's significantly heavier.

Mint LXDE - wrong screen resolution during boot. [SOLVED]

Installed Mint LXDE on an old AMD Duron 1200. Installed perfectly, works like a charm! Very responsive and fast. My only issue is that, during boot, Mint sets a screen resolution that the display doesn't support, although the resolution it sets when it reaches the desktop (1280x1024) is the correct ...

Re: mintInstall suggestion

Let's face it, either mintinstall is supposed to be a GUI for managing your software, or not. If it is incapable of uninstalling the software it installs itself, then it is not complete. Period. I use mint, and that was the first thing i found stupid. If the idea of mint is improve over Ubuntu, that...

Yes, i know, but the problem is CPU, not software capability.

Re: Running windows apps under wine, cpu to 100% all the time

Thank you for your suggestion. Yes, i know Virtualbox, have it installed and it works very well. But it is is not a solution. Occasionally, i want to play some well supported windows game like D3 or NWN. You can't play those in Virtualbox. They work perfectly under wine, except when this happens, wh...

Re: Linux friendly hardware?

Stay away from ATI cards, of course.
As far as i know, inboard sound is well supported. I had some experience with ASUS and ASROCK motherboards, both were well supported.

Running windows apps under wine, cpu to 100% all the time

Yes, as the title says, sometimes i call a windows application under wine and cpu load goes to 100% and stays there all the time, and even for about 20 seconds after i close that windows app. Windows apps also take a long time to start sometimes (+- 1 min). Did anyone run into this behavior and know...
