Re: /var/temp/ massive size

Systemd services can use /var/tmp and would use that naming. That's fine. The rtkit-daemon service is there for programs that need real-time scheduling priority. They can request it and rtkit-daemon will arrange it for them. This is innocuous. What is supposed to clean up these various systemd crea...

Re: auto mount NTFS USB drive

I did a little more looking and found a reference to the udiskie package as a way to handle this problem. As this is available in our repositories I have installed it and will see if it handles the problem the next time I attempt to use the USB drive. The only thing I am wondering is if installing t...

auto mount NTFS USB drive

I have an NTFS formatted USB drive. When I insert it I hear the sound indicating it is present, but it does NOT automatically mount and open like other USB drives. What do I need to change to have this work automatically? I am currently having to issue terminal commands to mount it, unmount it and e...

Good luck, you're the second one posting on the ghostscript update 'breaking' their printer. It's in my update list, but I'll take a timeshift snapshot first!
Problem corrected. They issued an update to the filters and the printer now works.

Re: Ghostscript update breaks printer driver

In that case update manager > history of updates and see if you can spot the update to ghostscript. It will tell you old and new version. Then I think it's into synaptic package manager to uninstall the new version and then re-install the old version. But... if there are wider dependencies, don't k...

timeshift?
Afraid I didn't have that installed, so not an option.

Ghostscript update breaks printer driver

Earlier today ghostscript updated to 9.26 here. Since this update my PCL5 printing on my Brother HL-5050 network printer is dead. The cups error log shows: D [08/May/2019:14:44:36 -0400] [Job 306] File of type application/pdf queued by "dhdurgee". D [08/May/2019:14:44:36 -0400] [Job 306] hold_until=...

Re: Access Denied - Sucuri Website Firewall

AH, I was wondering why the strange error. I restarted the system and am no longer having the probem. I will check further as suggested if I encounter the problem again.

Access Denied - Sucuri Website Firewall

I ran into a strange problem earlier today, mintupdate stopped working. Looking at its log file in /tmp I see: 01.21@10:31 ++ Launching mintUpdate 01.21@10:31 ++ Starting refresh 01.21@10:31 ++ Initial refresh will happen in 10 minutes, 0 hours and 0 days 01.21@10:31 -- Exception occurred in the ref...

adding gcc 7.1 to sylvia

I am looking to install a package that requires libstdc++.so.6.0.23, which I have been told is supplied with the gcc 7.1 compiler. If this is correct, how can I obtain this compiler package and install it on sylvia?

Re: Grub Rescue!

Everything had been working fine for months until I attempted this latest move. My only motive had been to convert the file system to "ext4" to make Dropbox work again. But I digress. I seek your advice. Thanks. Don't do it if you have not already done so. There is a work-around to get Dropbox runn...

Re: New Disk format requirements for using DropBox

Well, DropBox did the deed late yesterday and released a new client that broke it for me here. I tried to move it to my w7 NTFS partition, only to be told that it was not supported either despite what someone at DropBox support told me a few months ago. I am also not happy with the above suggested m...

Re: New Disk format requirements for using DropBox

I have also received this notice from DropBox and see no reason for them to REQUIRE an ext4 formatted file system for their folder. My searches on this topic appear to indicate that they will be requiring use of extended attributes to support their new release. hi All! dhdurgee, I quoted your reply...

Re: New Disk format requirements for using DropBox

Just thought I would post to note that I am still having no problems syncing dropbox on my JFS partition even after a number of dropbox updates. Looking over on the dropbox forums it appears as if others are having problems, so perhaps I am an exception. There was a suggested solution from a consult...

Re: New Disk format requirements for using DropBox

I chose to take a wait-and-see approach to this issue. I kept getting messages and notifications from DropBox, but I ignored them. Theoretically now, as I understand it, my JFS partition is no longer supported by DropBox and should not be syncing. I am pleased to find that it IS still syncing. This ...

Re: panel settings, especially taskbar

I believe chromecast support in VLC is Windows and Mac only. Mint 19 has got VLC 3.03 and it doesn't have it. http://mkchromecast.com/ might be of interest. This in the repos in Mint 19 (not in Mint 18.3) Also you can open and cast local video with Chrome or Chromium. I wasn't aware VLC 3+ had chro...

Re: panel settings, especially taskbar

I was unaware that flatpak was integrated into software manager, as I had been sticking to synaptic. I might give this a try later to see if there is a change in behavior. At the moment I am debating if I should continue to fight with either flatpak or snap. The main reason I had installed the snap ...

Re: panel settings, especially taskbar

I unpinned my vlc app and added it again as you suggested. No change in behavior. You are correct, I had to manually create my menu entry to use the new vlc via snap. I took a look and interestingly enough flatpak is on my system, so I guess 18.3 includes it. There is no menu entry for flatpak itsel...

Just a quick question - have you tried right-clicking on your VLC Snap launcher in the menu and picking add to panel? That should just work (it does with Flatpak)
I left-held and dragged from the VLC Snap launcher in the menu to the panel, which I believe does the same thing.

Re: panel settings, especially taskbar

Thank you for looking further into this in a later release. Feel free to either re-open my issue or create a new one if you think it will get more attention. I am at present seeing if CobiWindowList is still supporting my release and have recreated and posted the issue there. I will let you know how...
