Re: Removing non-western alphabet fonts

You can also remove the Mathjax fonts if you don't need them -

sudo apt purge fonts-mathjax

Re: Newbie making the switch from lubuntu

Sorry for not noticing this and replying earlier! I had wondered about trying Mint for a while, but then a lubuntu upgrade went wrong and I had no option but to do a clean install so it seemed like the best moment to try. And while I missed the simplicity of lubuntu, once I'd been using Mint for a ...

Re: Grammar Pet Peeve

A couple of pet peeves. I'm sure I'll think of more...

"Should of" instead of "should've" I see this most days...

"Alot" instead of "a lot" It's two words, not one....

Re: Opinion XFCE vs Cinnamon

I was new to Linux in December 2019 and ran Cinnamon for 6 months and whilst I didn't have any problems with Cinnamon I felt that Xfce was a bit more 'my thing'. Now I only use Xfce and love it, it's quick, configurable and reliable and I'd take a LOT of convincing to use anything else.

Re: puddletag

I've tried most of the tagging software and Puddletag is the best as far as I'm concerned.

I've installed it on LM20 Xfce using this guide and it works just fine - http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/202 ... ntu-20-04/

Re: Seeking recommendations for secure email please

+1 for ProtonMail here, their free account more than meets my needs. So, I am still using the same client I started out with over twenty years ago: Outlook Express. I still have all the emails sent and received since day one. Wow, that must be a serious amount of email if you've kept everything!

Alternatively, you could search this forum viewtopic.php?p=1831370
Shame the OP didn't mark this thread as solved.. I wouldn't have wasted my time then.

Re: New CDDB settings for Asunder? Sound Juicer settings?

I just fired up Asunder to rip a CD and remembered that freedb.org is dead. A quick search online led me to this which enabled me to configure Asunder (although the page isn't about Asunder but the basic info is there) - https://www.gnudb.org/howto.php To enable CD look-up in Asunder go to Preferenc...

Re: [Solved] Xfce - resize notification area panel icons independently?

Hi, Thanks for this - I've been trying to do the same thing... However, when I insert the section you showed in your example, it made no difference. Is there something wrong with the syntax? Do the "#" symbols need to be removed? Cheers, Mike. Mike, it works fine, the # do not need to be removed. T...

Re: Deleting an unwanted distribution and partition

I'd go for the slash and burn option too, however...

If you go for the Gparted option then run the Boot Repair tool on the live USB afterwards to fix your Grub menu entries.

Re: What distro would you use for your main daily driver other than Mint?

I'd go with MX Linux if I didn't use Mint Xfce. I've pondered on my original choice (and messed around with live USB's) and if Mint Xfce didn't exist I'd chose: Either Xubuntu or Sparky Linux, I'd dual boot both and test them together more intensely over a month or two. MX LInux I have installed pr...

Re: Do the pages on forums.linuxmint.com need updating?

I'd like to see a tooltip when you mouseover a topic that would give you the first couple of lines of the topic. I would open a lot less topics if I could get a flavour of the content without having to click on them. This is mainly due to poor topic titles/descriptions... I also use the blue theme r...

Re: Xfce - resize notification area panel icons independently?

Now solved. Individual panel icons can have their display size controlled within .config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css Examples: ##change the size of a panel icon, here some examples; adjust scale number as ##desired #pulseaudio-button image { -gtk-icon-transform: scale(0.5); } #xfce-panel-button image { -gtk-ico...

Timeshift including settings post OS install and configuration. I keep this backup until a new OS version becomes available. Timeshift for any major system updates or changes. I delete these after a while. Grsync to USB stick - as and when changes are made to personal files. Weekly Grsync of Home (e...
