Hello Mr Ethernet,

I see in your post above, that you have solved your issue by turning on the wifi switch.

Can you please set your post to [SOLVED].

Re: Why doesn't this default Intel WiFi driver work?

It seems to me it should be impossible to override by software a hardware switch because the HW switch should take priority. That is what I would expect. Some years ago I went on a date to a coffee shop and took my laptop with which I intended to impress my date with something or other but I just c...

Re: Why doesn't this default Intel WiFi driver work?

https://i.imgur.com/jctmxGn.png I decided to Google the terms "hard block" and "soft block". "Hard blocked" cannot be changed by software. Look for a WiFi toggle on your keyboard or edges of the laptop; the device can also be hard blocked if disabled in the BIOS. "Soft blocked" means "blocked by so...

[SOLVED] Why doesn't this default Intel WiFi driver work?

I recently installed Mint on a Dell Latitude E6400 laptop. The Ethernet adapter worked immediately but the WiFi adapter seems to have had the wrong Intel driver installed and didn't show up under Network Connections. I got it working by connecting the laptop via Ethernet and following these instruct...

How to diagnose a random crash?

My Mint (Cinnamon) installation crashed recently and for no obvious reason! All I had open at the time was Firefox, with a few tabs open. The very last thing I did just before the crash was attempt to open a new tab with Control + T. The screen suddenly went completely black and it wouldn't respond ...

Re: WiFi icon looks weird

What DE are you using? If Cinnamon and you have the Network manager applet on your panel the Network manager systray icon will be hidden. If you remove the Network manager applet, then the systray icon will display. They have slightly different icons.... Yup, I'm using Cinnamon. I just tried adding...

Re: WiFi icon looks weird

Mine used to look like this, before I tried to remove it:

It was similar but it has definitely changed slightly.

WiFi icon looks weird

I attempted to completely hide the WiFi icon from the panel but instead managed to make it look like this:

Any ideas what's going on?

How can I:
  • hide the WiFi icon completely from the panel?
  • make the WiFi revert to its default appearance?
