Re: ISO burn to UBS issues
Sorry for the crap ton of information, Wow. You should be sorry, that is indeed a lot of crap. I didn't see anyone asking where to shop, what to buy, or whether or not they should dual boot. Did you even read the question before spewing off at the keyboard? The question was; how to check the ISO on...

Re: ISO burn to UBS issues
Hello, I'm so new to computers (at 50), please speak to me like you would, teaching a 6 year old how to do stuff. OK...now that's out of the way. :) So, I started on this path and it's been weeks of figurring out what I needed to do and then backing up data, bouncing e-mail accounts around, deletin...

Re: Computer Died (Rant Alert)
That's tough luck about the computer, but all electronic gadgets die eventually. I'm surprised you didn't have a backup of the passwords. I thought you were keen on backups. Yeah, but on such an expensive computer after only 10-11 months? I still haven't heard back from System 76. I did have a back...

Re: Intel i225-V 2.5G NIC not working
Per Intel themselves, they close their own forum which had thousands views and hundreds of end users reporting problems with that same ethernet chipset on their own Intel based motherboards without getting back with their customers ( Intel at first claimed "Our engineering team is currently inv...

Re: Granny's here now . . .
New to Linux, although I've been threatening to switch from Windows ever since W10 was released. I'm over 70 years young and enjoy 'tech', but despise W10. I somehow killed the HD in my Lenovo G50-45 - no truth to the rumor that I beat it to death. I did smack the laptop a few times in frustration ...

Re: Shutdown not working
Running Mint 19.3 32 bit on a Samsung laptop. I had a problem with In the past the only way to shutdown was to reboot. Since the latest kernels Reboot now reboots but shutdown still does not shutdown and I end up closing by holding the power button. Is there a solution?. --Hopefully I'm not arguing...

Re: Mint 20.1 on AMD NUC - All Working
-- Awesome! Congrats! I was considering getting a little NUC PC and preferred to give AMD my money. Now I have a fairly worst case scenario idea of what to expect, what must be done, and I'm good to go. Thanks man . Cheers --

Re: I suck at terminal
I've been trying to do many different things in terminal and I have around a 10% success rate. I feel like a lot of the instructions online are missing some crucial basic steps that I am not putting in because I don't know what I'm doing. A lot of the instructions online are for Ubuntu, is Ubuntu 2...

Re: Ready to get away from dual boot. What's the best approach?
Thank you Andy for the clarification. Yes, I know it will take time. I had to move my partitions once before because of some unallocated space in between partitions. Timeshift and data backups are up to date. -- Have you been able to complete what Andy recommended yet? I'm interested to know as alt...

Re: [Solved] Where's the Trash Can, (Trash Folder, Trash Directory, Rubbish Bin)?
Where's the Trash Folder in Mint? (Like the Recycle Bin in Windows?) I found two answers. 1) If it's not on your Desktop, you can put it there: Menu > System Settings > Desktop > change the Trash setting from Off to On. Or, if you don't like icons on your desktop, 2) Menu > Files > Go > Trash. Open...

Re: EVOwise
Evowise always comes top when I look for a mirror. Why is this? The company is based in Bucharest, Romania. How is it possible that they have the fastest speed? I'm suspicious. I only use mirrors from US university math departments. -- Perhaps Evowise has local physical servers nearest to your area...

Re: New Linux Mint convert
-- Congrats on the successful convert involving your friend! I recommend getting comfortable using Timeshift and a good system image backup/cloning program ( such as Foxclone) and then teach your friend how to use both. It's always something that is often accidentally forgotten and neglected until c...

Re: New-to-Linux my recommendations/tips
foxclone and cloning in general is not suitable for new users It's hard to argue with that. But I would encourage them to do it later on. It's comforting to know you can restore your OS even if a Timeshift is not available, or if Timeshift ever fails. I take an image about every 2 months, and clear...

Re: New-to-Linux my recommendations/tips
You suggest to new users foxclone???? 1. Well is a heck of a lot more user friendly than clonezilla 2. The first thing any PC user ( regardless of level) should practice and learn well of is doing a system image backup, and Foxclone works with backing up and restoring both Windows and Linux the sam...

Re: How to get Win10 off of my new laptop?
I've purchased a Dell 15 Inspiron 3000 laptop and portable DVD drive, intending to install Mint dual-boot with Windows ( not Win 10). I can't find a way to get started. I've done this before with older laptops that had other Windows versions. I used a bootable Killdisk CD to wipe the HD clean, then...

Re: My computer sometimes works
msi and radeon are jot the best hardware for linux. You should have done a research before buying them. -- I've never had a problem out of using an msi motherboard and a red team graphics card in Linux Mint since even 2015.
