Re: Old swap file size persists
I've used https://itsfoss.com/create-swap-file-linux/ ( aka what you labeled as this page 's instructions plenty of times before so I know those instructions work. ==== Hopefully you're not trying to do a swap partition.. As this is no longer needed === Now I read around a bit more and think I shoul...

Re: Turn Windows D drive into a dedicated Linux drive?
1. Disable Fast start up aka quick startup aka quick boot aka fast boot in your Windows desktop...then disable that same item in your uefi/bios. This has a nasty habit of causing all sorts of weird problems for those dual booting Windows and Linux operating systems. 2. AFTER you've confirmed any pre...

Re: Reporting as Ubuntu 22.04
While billyswong is definitely on point here...I don't see why it should be a problem to try Mint 21.x for this mission. I have yet to see a single thing that works in Ubuntu regardless of the version versus the close enough " adjacent " version of Mint since using it since late 2010 ( for...

Re: Bottles
Just wondering if it would make a difference if I uninstalled the programs first Usually doesn't matter. The Only way I could think it might, is if you specified different folders for your wine containers versus what is by default in Bottles. I've never used Bottles, but assuming Bottles ...by defa...

Same base and I like what the Mint team does with it. Not confusing to me Just because Mint uses the same base as Ubuntu..doesn't mean Mint ...IS...Ubuntu. One difference is that Clem and his team isn't trying to turn into Microsoft as Canonical has shown signs it does want to ( Forcing snaps is on...

I'm confused...Why are you thanking the Linux Mint team if you chose to install Ubuntu instead of Mint? (scratches head in confusion)

Re: Why so complicated
Maybe just a rant, but we really want to make a switch to full Linux Mint, but it can't happen if they can't make it simple plug and play for the common user. flatpak versions of applications are even EASIER to install than .deb versions. Look them up on Software Manager application, click the Inst...

Mint uses the same boot loader as Ubuntu and thus if everything else is in order... You might see " Ubuntu" in the bootable device selections in bios/uefiopened bios, and couldn't find Mint anywhere

I can't find any way to convince mintupgrade that snapshots are turned on I'm wondering if you are accidentally misunderstanding. Re: What would happen if....
Then I wondered: What would happen if someone - me in a forgetful moment, or some unauthorized person - turned on the computer without the SD card containing /home inserted? Would it fail to complete startup? If /home is on a completely different storage drive ( in this case your sd card) and you e...

Well if all else has failed....( before considering a clean install start)... 1. create a Timeshift snapshot, or system image backup or full drive clone using Foxclone or another dependable image backup or cloning software targetting a separate ssd. 2. Re: INSTALL questions
the ui for the install gui is TOO small While for the most part I couldn't agree more, I imagine until more time passes - to the extent of where UHD AKA fasley advertised 4k resolution screens - become the more minimum standard/normal ordeal for every day budgeting joe and jane...I doubt Clem and h...
