Re: SOLVED - How to do wireless scanner Cannon Pixma MG6620
The name of the file I downloaded for the scanner is: scangearmp2-3.00-1-deb.tar.gz I don't recall just where I downloaded from...but I think you'll find it with a Google search. I found that this contains a program called: scangearmp2 which I put in a desktop launcher. When you start this program, ...

Which Linux Flavor is best for Multimedia?
Which flavor of Mint 17.2 is the best for multimedia (mainly audio)?
Right now, I'm using the KDE version but I've managed to screw up my keyboard volume controls....so rather than fight this, I'm going to reinstall...so I thought I'd this before doing the reinstall.
Thanks

Re: Audacity - recording from the web
.....and now my laptop's volume keys no longer affect the speaker volume
Geez
UPDATE
Somehow, my keyboard volume keys (Fn+Up / Fn+Down) have been remapped to the "Capture" of my soundcard, instead of "Volume". I have no idea how to fix it.

Re: Audacity - recording from the web
Well, somehow, I have managed to turn off my sound to the speakers :( Ah, in Alsamixer, I had muted PCM...... my sound is back. Now....no matter what I do, the built-in mic is always present in Audacity, mixed with what ever I'm playing in Firefox. This is frustrating....but I know I'm missing one k...

Re: Audacity - recording from the web
I download music and put it on my portable player. I go to Youtube, find the music from my favorite groups, record them in Audacity, then filter them so the levels are all the same before I copy them to my MP3 Player.

Audacity - recording from the web
I have just gone full-blown Mint 17.2 KDE, dumping Windows 10. Audacity is my audio program of choice. In Windows, I had no problems recording from the web into Audacity but in Mint, all I can record is my laptop's built in mic. I am using the Phonon audio as it was installed while installing Mint a...

SOLVED - How to do wireless scanner Cannon Pixma MG6620
I have just gotten rid of Windows completely, installed Mint 17.2 as my only OS and now I'm setting up my wireless printer/scanner (Cannon Pixma MG6620). I have successfully set up wireless printing.....now trying to tackle wireless scanning. I have downloaded and installed the necessary drivers for...

All Mint 17.2 now.....
I've been a Windows user since Windows 3.1 and started dual-booting Linux (various flavors) many, many years ago. With the latest upgrade to Windows 10 and learning how much is going on in the background, I decided to fiercely investigate dumping Windows completely.....and tonight, I was able to fin...

Re: VirtualBox in Mint 17.2
Strange that I have successfully installed Windows 7 64 and Linux Mint 17.2 64....I just can't do it in a VirtualBox. If you reread the checklist I linked you have the explanation: 64 bit capability is one obligatory hardware condition, but not the only one. It seems that your computer doesn't supp...

Re: VirtualBox in Mint 17.2
Well, I uninstalled, deleted the .deb, redownloaded it, reinstalled but still, only 32-bit versions show in the list when creating the VM. I guess until I get a new laptop, I'll have to be satisfied with it the way it is. From what I've read, since my BIOS doesn't have Virtualization options, instal...

Re: VirtualBox in Mint 17.2
Yes, that's where I got it. I think it's my BIOS that is the culprit.
Is there a configuration file that can force the 64-bit operation?

Re: VirtualBox in Mint 17.2
When I create a VM and select the Guest OS, the drop down list shows only 32-bit options in the entire list. I was reading some docs on this and it appears that since there is no "Virtualization" selection to turn on/off in my BIOS, I'm limited to only 32-bit Guest OS's in VirtualBox, even...

Re: VirtualBox in Mint 17.2
Hmmmm.....I hit a roadblock. I didn't realize VirtualBox can only setup a Windows VM from 32-bit media. My Windows installation dvd is 64-bit. Darn.

Is there a way to install my own Windows 7 from dvd in the VirtualBox? I have the code for its installation and verification.
