Re: Epson XP 342 Printer/Scanner not found

I know this might sound really stupid, and trust me Silver Surfer when I say I'm as green with this as you are, but did you try switching it off and on again? I just spent three hours this evening doing battle with my Epson XP-2101, installing this, uninstalling that, fixing dependencies in Synaptic...

Re: ACPI BIOS Error

Untechnical as this solution was, I just waited a while as I had two GRUB2 updates to run. I wasn't sure which one to use, so left it a few days. Then there was an Ubuntu update and kernel update that were released. I applied those and then the signed GRUB2 update. Everything went through smoothly. ...

Re: ACPI BIOS Error

Thanks for the advice, it is appreciated. I didn't realize that the built in encryption caused that many more complexities. I will look at using Veracrypt containers instead. I had (incorrectly it seems) assumed the whole disk approach it was more direct and effective than using admin accounts and u...

Re: ACPI BIOS Error

Couldn't wait for a solution as I needed the machine for a project. Timeshifted back two days and everything is back to normal. I had 5 updates waiting. Two security ones and one for Skype. Applied those updates and restarted the device successfully. Will apply the 2 system updates more cautiously, ...

[SOLVED] ACPI BIOS Error

Running Mint 19.3, Kernel 5.x and I've tried reverting to earlier versions, no luck. I hadn't shut the computer down for a few days. It had run a few updates and restarted afterward just fine. This morning I started getting this message after boot: https://files.catbox.moe/tbcn1z.jpg Trying an earli...

Ah... changing the last one didn't change the others. Good to know. Thanks for pointing that out.

Done and dusted.

How do you remember bits of sudo code?

So following another discussion on the boards here, and as a new user, I'm now interested to learn how people remember all the bits of sudo code they use. Is there a secret I don't know? Is it practice makes perfect? Frequent use? Do you just internet search for the lines you need? Do you keep post-...

[SOLVED] Black Screen After Boot Decrypt. (Hand-holding for a newbie.)

Thanks for the corrections and pointers. I *really* appreciate it. Learning how to use Linux is a well overdue step for me and it is like a language. Once you pick up the "common phrases" things are relatively easy, especially with a working Timeshift regimen on a drive that can be read by the syste...

AFAIK timeshift doesn't recognize NFTS or FAT.
Just so. This was the issue. It's looking like reinstall is the way to go.

Re: Black Screen After Boot Decrypt. (Hand-holding for a newbie.)

So... last call for help.

I seem to have worked out that I can get to grub cmd at boot, what I need is the code to remove nvidia drivers. Anyone able to help, or can admin move this to the right sub?

Re: Black Screen After Boot Decrypt. (Hand-holding for a newbie.)

Thanks for your suggestion Moem. I swapped my boot order to USB first, then went in through Live Mint on a USB and followed the guide for using Timeshift here: https://www.reallinuxuser.com/how-to-use-linux-mint-without-installing-on-a-pc/ Timeshift could not find any snapshots I had saved (if I had...

[SOLVED] Black Screen After Boot Decrypt. (Hand-holding for a newbie.)

I was a Windows user until about 3 months ago, so I need a bit of hand-holding, I hope someone here has the patience to help. After a successful POST and drive decrypt sequence, I run into a black screen. System otherwise seems to be running fine. I am aware that this is similar to other recent (Jan...
