I issue exactly same problem for live USB written with MintStick (try on 2 computers)
LM 21.1 Xfce shows directly "Verification failed: (0x1A) Security Violation"
Ubuntu 22.04.2 std Gnome edition pass without error.
Seems something is not signed or nor correctly signed in the ISO.

Boot repair identifie Linux Mint comme Ubuntu, c'est normal car ce dernier est basé sur Ubuntu.

I upgraded successfully too this weekend on Acer 2015 laptop.. If you are not sure for your hardware, build a live USB stick with 20.2 and try before upgrade via mintupgrade.

Hi, on a old computer you have to first check the disk's SMART datas. So please boot up the Mint USB stick, launch the Disk application, at left select your hard disk, then you have on the right top bar the 3 vertical dots , click on it and you have the SMART menu. Please post an image.

Re: Accidentally formatted Mint 19 from windows 10
Hi, you can't format Linux partition from Windows, file system isn't compatible.
So first say exactly what you're done:
Delete partition from your own?
Delete Linux boot entry (probably from Windows update)?

Hi, build a bootable USB stick with https://sourceforge.net/p/boot-repair/home/Home/
Then boot on it and let it repair.

Re: Which version should I use?
The only distros that have fresh active support for 32 bits are Debian based. Look at Distrowatch, make a USB pen and test on live with your machine before do an install.

Re: Help me UPGRADE old (2004) LM19.3 Tricia
Debian 11 would be a good solution, but yes reinstallation must be done in any case (except if you want to keep LM 19.3 till 2023 with is year of end of support) If you want to try it, take it here, and first done a usb live for testing your hardware compatibility with : https://cdimage.debian.org/m...
