It was a mistake. I thoug...

Remove Asian fonts output question

I follow instructions, https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/clean-mint.html#ID8 that remove Asian fonts. I use Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.3. Why is there registering documents and removed doc-base file if the command only removes fonts? Removing fonts-tlwg-waree (1:0.6.4-2) ... Removing fonts-tlw...

Re: Remove Samba?

I thought Samba was only a optional component for sharing files the Microsoft Windows way. Now I am learning it is more integrate into Linux Mint. That is why I asked if we were talking about "samba" the package or "all things samba". If you remove libsmbclient you will remove gv...

Sure you can, but it might come in useful when you want to share with another local Linux machine, unless you plan to use nfs.
Okay thanks. I thought there may be dependencies on Samba that will cause problems if I remove it.

I do not plan any file sharing. How do I remove Samba?

Re: Ignorant Samba Questions

Mint installs a samba client library ( libsmbclient ) by default which has enough logic in it to access a SMB / Samba server. What it does not install by default is the samba server package ( samba ) or the samba client utility ( smbclient ). Linux Mint 19.3 does install smbclient by default. I hav...

Re: Are kernel updates security updates?

Inside the Mint Update Manager, are you sure you clicked on the right package (group) and then on changelog? Yes. When I click on the Changelog for Linux kernel it does not fail. It loads this text, linux-meta-hwe (5.3.0.51.104) bionic; urgency=medium * Bump ABI 5.3.0-51 -- Thadeu Lima de Souza Cas...

Re: Are kernel updates security updates?

Perhaps because it is German language? In English language it displays the same text in Update Manager and Synaptic Package Manager. However the text is not changelog information. It displays, linux-meta-hwe (5.3.0.51.104) bionic; urgency=medium * Bump ABI 5.3.0-51 -- Thadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo <...

Re: Are kernel updates security updates?

The Changelogs in Synaptic Package Manager are same as Update Manager. I find it confusing the changelog for the kernel is listed under a different update, the kernel headers for development. However thank you for explaining.
