Re: Linux Mint 19.3/Firefox browser hacked

Thanks for the code Kukamuumuka, I'll remember it if I again get the 'bug'. The timeshifted pre-infection copy seems to be OK. Thanks

Re: Linux Mint 19.3/Firefox browser hacked

Firstly; remember I am new to Linux so slowly learning. (VERY subject-dumb) I found the web search for remedies but all appeared to be geared to WINDOWS not LINUX. There was a plethora of 'click here's' but was shy about clicking anything at this point. After a couple hours, got PD'd and just...

[SOLVED] Linux Mint 19.3/Firefox browser hacked

Wow! BUGGER! Thought Linux was fairly secure.. I had spent the day tinkering with VirtualBox to stumble through setting it up with VB to allow me to run a program on video filing I had purchased a couple years ago to directly access it on the Linux which I use on an entertainment computer running a ...

Re: How to make hard drives read only?

I have lost videos before (W-7) and am wary of doing it again. The HDD is 2-3T and backing it up is illogical for me as I have nothing blank to dump it onto. As apparently changing it to semi-permanent read-only is an 'iffy' thing guess its better to just leave it alone and be careful.
Thanks

Re: (SOLVED) No USB wi-fi found on fresh load

Bingo! I got PO'd and installed a fresh copy of Mint 19.3 onto a wiped SSD drive. The (temporary) ethernet was hooked up and 19.3 found it. Still no wi-fi recognized. <THEN> Took the Roswell USB wi-fi adapter from the Windows 10 machine and exchanged it into the Linus machine  BINGO- again, i...

Re: No USB wi-fi found on fresh load

OK- Did a fresh reload of Mint 19.3 and I now have internet connection via ethernet.
It now will nor recognize any wi-fi. The ethernet has to be temporary and need to access via wi-fi only.

Re: No USB wi-fi found on fresh load

sudo apt install git dkms
Is as far as I can get. It replies 'new packages will be installed git-man liberror-perl' then will not proceed..
I guess I am going to have to pack everything down stairs and get a ethernet cable attached to see if it can fix itself?

So... is it all working as it should now?
I would say that it is, or better, nothing was ever really 'wrong' just a learning curve.
Many thanks to all who contributed. I would guess that I'm going to be here frequently

Re: Just loaded Linux Mint and updated to 19.3

Being used to Microsoft programs I tend to opt for pictorial-type programs instead of DOS-type. That is why I tried the partition manager even though it had low ratings.. There is going to be a lot of tripping over my feet during this transition to Linux. Worse, the computer I use most was just upda...

(SOLVED) No USB wi-fi found on fresh load

Just loaded Linux Mint on second computer that had Windows 7 system on it. Fresh Linux load does not find the USB 'dongle' wi-fi. It was working on the W-7 previously. It is a EDUP EP-AC1605 (1200M). There is a Linux driver available with it on USB stick but I have not been able to get it to load.. ...

Apparently I didn't have admin permission so tried to tried to set root password and...

It won't accept a UNIX password..
There was never one generated as far as I know.
