Re: Help with data (FF & TB profile) recovery [SOLVED]

OK, so I did some more looking at the /home folder in question... Turns out that the reason why some users could not log on was that file/folder ownership in their home folder got borked somehow i.e the user was not the owner!!! Once I fixed that little problem, all the users were able to log in and...

Re: Help with data (FF & TB profile) recovery

You can access them from live medium... Tried that and failed with the same error message about not having read permission... This "lack of read permission" is only for some of the items in the profile (but not most). There must be a missing ingredient here but for the life of me, I can't imagine w...

Re: Help with data (FF & TB profile) recovery

Start Nemo enable show hidden files. Then go log on as root and copy the necessary files you want. You need to change the permission privileges to read & write for those files. I have: Started Nemo, opened the source as root and tried to copy... the error message reports that user root does not hav...

Re: Evaporating dialogue box?

Have you tried using Synaptic to remove ZOOM?

1) Open Synaptic and search for ZOOM
<Click to enlarge>
<Click to enlarge>
2) Right click the box next to ZOOM and select either "Mark for Removal" or "Mark for Complete Removal"

3) Click "Apply" in the menu at the top.

4) Done!

Re: 19.3 Cinnamon desktop locking up

I am running Mint 19(.0) and when I change users and then go back, sometimes my desktop is unresponsive... the mouse seems to work but essentially nothing else does... I end up restarting Cinnamon (Ctrl + Alt + Esc) and everything goes back to normal. Try restarting cinnamon to see if that works for...

Re: Linux Mint installation does not recognize SDD

It looks as though this might ba an Acer-centric problem... This might be helpful. Also, do you have a BIOS page than looks something like this (you're looking for SATA configuration) >>> wd040hivm4u2.jpg Thank you for pointing to the solution. Did not know that there was a secret menu in BIOS. Cha...

Also, from what I've read at the forum, I tried to enable AHCI setting for hard drive in my BIOS, but I simply couldn't find where it's done. The option seems to be absent there.
Keep looking... 8)

Re: What will happen to the usb i used to install the os

As a general rule, if you burn a Mint ISO to your USB flash drive, you will destroy all the information that was previously on the drive in the process. The short answer / solution for you is - DON'T use the flash drive you have with important files on it, buy another ~4GB USB flash drive for this p...

Re: Building new PC - best option for dual boot with Mint

Just make sure all your hardware choices are compatible check this link On that note, built the desktop about 18mths ago, went with intel (i5-8400) and nivia graphics - gtx1080, just to be safe. Didn't want to take any risks on the later AMD CPUs. Have been disappointed with the BIOS in the MSI mob...

Re: Building new PC - best option for dual boot with Mint

I would have a tendency to go a bit smaller on the "in the box" storage (NVMe) - probably about 500 GB. You can split that as 250 GB for Win and 250 GB for Mint. Set up the Win10 side any way you like. I haven't played much with Windoze in the last several years and don't have any useful advice in t...
