Re: Fountain pens and carpal tunnel syndrome

When I was shopping for a nice gift for a friend to commemorate an event in their life, I thought a nice pen would be just the t...

Nice rant newbie!!! You made a typo early in the rant though... you typed "linux needs..." when you meant "I want... (that I have an intuitive understanding of)..."

Re: Simple way to Format usb stick for Linux mint backup

No special formatting required... but if you want to change the partitioning/formatting, I would use Gparted.

What software are you going to use to do the backup? The last time I looked, Clonezilla can write/read to/from all the commonly seen/used Linux &/or Windoze file systems.

Re: If Linux went away, what would you use?

Ummm... aren't Chrome OS and Android both Linux (i.e. use a Linux kernel however modified or customized it may be)?!?!?!

...and now that I think about it, Mac and IOS are "almost" Linux as well (descendants of BSD IIRC)!...

Re: How to run Tor ?I

I've had my paypal stolen and money was spent. Possible had a 'keystroke' virus. I've had other issues also. I was hoping I could just figure out how to get linux 'secure' then not have to fiddle with it anymore. Even this task seems beyond me lol You don't have to figure out how to "get linux secu...

Re: How much memory do I need?

Do you have "System monitor" on your system? If so, start it and open the resources tab an let it run on an idle desktop. Then do whatever you normally do and when you see a problematic performance issue, take a look at the system monitor (or get a screen shot of it and post it here) to see if you c...

Re: Help with finding distro for notebook with 1 GB tram.

Try LXLE . From Distrowatch LXLE page: LXLE is an easy-to-use lightweight desktop Linux distribution based on Lubuntu and featuring the LXDE desktop environment. Compared to its parent, LXLE has a number of unique characteristics: it is built from Ubuntu's LTS (long-term support) releases, it covers...

Re: Installing OS on USB, where to put bootloader?

1) Don't install the bootloader on the HD 2) Do install the bootloader on the USB with the new installation . After the installation, continue working with the OS booted from the boot USB. Then shut down as usual. Put the USB with the new installation into a USB port and boot the system and see what...

When is Linux Mint Stretch/Betsy out? I'm not sure but I think the answer is never. Betsy (LMDE2) uses Jessie as its code base. I believe LMDE3 (code name not yet published) will be based on Stretch. There isn't any announcement regarding LMDE3 that I know of and it isn't yet in beta... but we are a...

I changed to Open DNS a few years ago. I changed for privacy reasons... You can use their DNS servers without any cost by simply configuring your router to use them.
