Re: nvida and virtual box

Re: Installing onto a MackBookPro

It's a success, the install went without problems. Thanks to all who advised me on this.

@Racer-X... the graphics are Intel 3rd Gen, so no nVidia issues ;).

I'll mark the thread solved.

Do you have an Ethernet connection on the device side? The question is not a joke.
Just looked and no, it doesn't, so it looks like USB tethering it is then.

Re: Installing onto a MackBookPro

Thanks HAWR and absque fenestris, it is indeed a Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 card.

I'll follow Pjotr's suggestion when I install later today, I also have access to a wired connection if the WIFI tethering fails.

[SOLVED] Installing onto a MackBookPro

Hi folks, my daughter has given me her old 2013 MackBookPro 10,2 that she used for Uni, and hopefully I can use it as another Mint machine. It has a 3.0GHz core i7 (i7-3540M), 8GB of DDR3 Ram and a 256 GB SSD. Last night I ran a Mint Mate 19.3 Live USB on it to see how it looked, the only problem I ...

Re: Huge Problems with USB Stick (aka flash drive)

Bit of a daft question this, so excuse me... but has the USB stick been formatted? Disks is saying 'Volumes: No Media', and 'Volumes: 32 GB Unknown'.

Re: [SOLVED] Small issues I think.

Thanks again Moem, and no, to my knowledge I've never used Flatpak before. I use to use Paint Shop Pro on windows as I could never get my head around Photoshop, and Pinta offered something similar to PSP, so I wanted to give it a go. Hi oldbob In Linux Mint you will find Pix . It's an uncomplicated...

Re: [SOLVED] Small issues I think.

Thank you, I'll certainly do that 'Flatpak' install later, and is 'Mono' included in that Flatpak?
I've toyed a little with Gimp and should continue, but for the stuff I do, it's a little overkill.

Re: Small issues I think.

bob@main:~$ ls -ld / drwxr-xr-x 23 bob bob 4096 Feb 1 18:32 / bob@main:~$ Like I said, backup your important files and clean install. Your system's permissions are wrecked. You should have, as per the output I gave you, root root but you have bob bob . Since there is no knowing how deep the problem...

Re: Small issues I think.

I think I have a couple of small issues... WARN: uid is 0 but '/' is owned by 1000 That is a very big problem. Have you been installing software from the command line that was downloaded from the internet, or otherwise been messing around with commands you don't understand? $ ls -ld / drwxr-xr-x 24...

[SOLVED] Small issues I think.

Hi folks, I think I have a couple of small issues, but being greener than grass, I'm not sure. Issue 1. When I installed Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.3, I followed Pjotr's advice re the firewall and enabled it via the Terminal https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/first-mint-cinnamon.html#ID1.7 It e...

Have you tried BU Backup by Joe Collins, I've used it a couple of times due to my 'tinkering mishaps', it runs well with Timeshift.

Re: ITV Hub Player

Just signed up to stv.tv and watched Scotland vs Ireland on catch up. Good quality. Back to ITV when they've fix their DRM issue. It's NOT a Linux Mint fault (I'm on Gallium OS whilst away from home) and ITV fails in both Chrome and Firefox. Thanks for the heads-up heatonmoor, I got her an account ...

Re: ITV Hub Player

Hi Rich, first thing I did when I installed Cinnamon on all three machines was to use Pjotr's recommendations ;). My rig is fairly high end, a i9 9900k, 16gb DDR4, GeForce GTX 970, Crucial MX500 500GB SSD plus 6.5tb storage all on a custom water loop. The wife's laptop is a 7yr old Sony Vaio core i5...

Re: ITV Hub Player

I have found a temporary workaround until the situation resolves itself: https://tvplayer.com/watch/itv This does not have DRM problems with Linux!!! Regards, Davent. Oops, looks like I reported success too soon, she just tried watching live ITV1, it plays for a few minutes then stops with the mess...

Re: Cannot Boot

I'm very new to Linux so can't help if it happens again.

I did find this page helpful when I first started using Mint, page 3 if you want a close option.
