Is Mono available with the latest Mint version?

I tried to search the forum for Mono and the search software refused, the term is too common. I don't see Mono in the package list on the distrowatch site. I'm still using katya and planned on upgrading to qiana when that version is released. I like the C# language and would like to try it with linu...

Dual boot Mint with WIndows 8?

From what I've read it seems the M$ is trying to prevent users from making Win8 machines dual boot. Does Mint have a solution for this? I'd like to get a new laptop. I'm wondering if I should avoid Win8.

Thanks

Solved? HELP - Can't run Software Manager or Package Manager

I ran both from a terminal window as suggested. Somehow that fixed the problem. Now they both start up from the menus.

SOLVED: HELP - Can't run Software Manager or Package Manager

I am running Katya version of Mint. When I select Software Manager nothing happens. When I select Package Manager I get the password input popup. Then Package Manager show for a second and then goes away. What is wrong and how do I fix it, short of reinstalling Mint? I have used both SM and PM many ...

Re: How to network to Win7 wireless via wired router?

I am still on Mint release 11, Katya. Is that different? When I right click on a folder the only sharing topic that is in the menu is "Sharing options". When I choose that there is nothing about network sharing on the window that comes up. It just has a check box "Share this folder.&q...

Recommended HP printer

I want an economical printer for my home office and decided on HP as they play well with linux. User reviews of their latest models are pretty bad. There are lots of paper feed problems with the newest models. The Photosmart 5520 for example. The older models have all of the colors in one cartridge ...

How to network to Win7 wireless via wired router?

I would like to connect my Mint desktop PC to our Win7 Acer netbooks via a wireless router. My desktop PC is old and doesn't have wireless capability. It is connected to the router via ethenet. Is there a web page somewhere that tells me what to do? I am experienced at unix scripting but know nothin...

Re: Known printers that work with Mint

Thanks.

We still have the MX712. My wife uses it via wifi from Windows and we use it as a FAX machine. I gave the other printer to a student who needed a printer.

I still need a printer for my office so I'll look for a cheap HP printer.

Known printers that work with Mint

I've tried two different Canon printers. Drivers were not available for either and they wouldn't work without them. The ones I tried are the PIXMA IP 2702 and PIXMA MX712. Is there a list of known usable printers? Are there some brands that always work? I've never had this trouble before with other ...

Laptops or netbooks that work with Mint?

I'm thinking of getting an inexpensive laptop or netbook and putting Mint on it. I've had issues with wifi when I've tried before. Are there any models that are known to work with Mint without installing any special drivers or other SW tweaks? Mint "just works" with my desktop PC. I'd like...

Re: Anyone having Firefox problems with Katya?

The windows in question were responses to previous submissions so it's not easy to reproduce the problem. One of the windows was a password reset screen. I did try to bring up that one in Opera and the screen didn't display at all.

I was just wondering if it would still work when I rebooted. I did reboot and the clock appeared without any problems.

Anyone having Firefox problems with Katya?

Sometimes a window will come up with fields in it that I am supposed to type into. I've had 2 instances where I would click on the field and my typing would not appear there. When I hit the enter key the site responded with a message about my lack of input. These are sites that I have used before. A...

Restore clock on toolbar?

I recently installed Katya after running Gloria in order to get newer versions of some apps. So far I am pretty happy with it. I was getting a message about not finding the clock program on startup and it asked if I wanted to remove it from my startup. I said yes, but I would like to have one in my ...

Why do only some printers require driver installs?

I have used 2 different printers with my desktop PC running Gloria version of Mint. I connected them with USB cables and they immediately worked without answering any questions or installing anything. I read in these forums about people having to install drivers to get their printers to work. I am c...

I followed the instructions about doing a sudo get-install for b43-fwcutter. I was told that it was already installed. I believe that happened right after the initial install. Wireless driver for Gateway Laptop? Solved

I've been using Gloria on my desktop and decided to install Julia on an older Gateway laptop. Perhaps I should have saved the Windows drivers, but I didn't do that. Julia installed fine but the wireless doesn't work. When I first started it up I got a message volunteering to download a Broadcom driv...
