Re: No icons in Gnome 3 "dash."

Zerozero - you are absolutely right. The zip file that holds the theme has two folders. I extracted them, then zipped up the 3.2 folder by itself and loaded that with Gnome-Tweak-Tool. Problem solved. Thank you!

Re: No icons in Gnome 3 "dash."

There was only one version to download. According to the site, the theme is compatible with both 3.2 and 3.4. Maybe it doesn't work well with 3.2 after all, I don't know. It looked like some people were using it with 3.2, but at least one user appears to have had the same issue (didn't say what dist...

Re: No icons in Gnome 3 "dash."

Yes, it is both Gnome 3.2 and 3.4 compatible. Worked great in Fedora 17.

[Solved] No icons in Gnome 3 "dash."

I have Linux Mint 12 64-bit installed. I used gnome-tweak-tool user theme extension to load a theme I like, however all of the application icons disappear from dash. I can still get into it, the Windows sections still works, and the icons in the panel on the left are still there. Changing back to th...

Install Gnome Shell Only?

Right now I am using Fedora 17 beta. I like it, but I can't get Amazon instant video to work. I know I can make it work in Mint, but I don't really want MATE or Cinnamon installed. Is there a way at install to only install Gnome 3 / Shell?

HP Printer Problem - Linux Mint 12

Hey guys - I installed Mint for a friend who is not a techie and is new to Linux. Apparently, a large print job was sent to the printer and in the middle of it the printer was turned off because she didn't want to print so many pages. From that point, the printer is not responsive. It will not print...

Re: Why Mint 12 Will Rock The Linux World

I think Gnome 3 shell is far, far better than Unity. In fact, it is safe to say that I'd use just about anything before Unity. I like Gnome Shell, but I am looking forward to giving Mint and MSGE a shot. Over the years, I've basically stuck with Mint, Fedora, and Ubuntu, and Mint 12 looks like it mi...

Re: My case for Gnome 3 shell in LMDE and Mint 12

I've been using Gnome 3 daily since the release of Fedora 15 that included it. I haven't had any problems with it, and I like it just fine. I wouldn't go back to Gnome 2.* under any circumstance that I can foresee. On one of my older machines I use OpenBox, but for day to day use I prefer Gnome 3 an...

Re: How To Remove Linux Mint Custom Google Search in Firefox

I got rid of the custom search as well. It is the single worst feature of the distro. If it generated the same results as a normal Google search and retained other functionality (doing simple math problems for example) I would keep it. But the results I get back from the custom search aren't as good...

Re: Fluxbox live cd will not boot on toshiba laptop

I have a newer Toshiba Satellite. I couldn't get it to start normally or in compatibility mode, but adding "acpi=off" to the boot commands did the trick for me.

How to install Dropbox on Linux Mint 9 Fluxbox

At least, here's what worked for me. First, go to the Dropbox web site. Download the package that says 'compile from source.' Once it is downloaded, use the archive manager to extract it to wherever you want it. Next go to the terminal. Here's what I did (as root): apt-get install libnautilus-extens...

Re: Wireless Connection and Mint 8 Helena Problem

I believe there are wireless card drivers included, but the Broadcom drivers are not included. I have a Broadcom wireless card on my laptop as well, and I've never had any trouble once I install the OS and activate the driver.

Re: LM8 Wireless Issue-Low Signal Strength & Disconnects[Solved]

Hmmm. I was having similar connectivity issues. Tried this advice with the backports, now the installation appears to be broken. I get a message about low graphics mode and that it failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module, then all I can do is log into the terminal. Any way to undo this? Or barring t...

Re: Thunderbird 3 deb - anyone seen one?

Seems to work well. They had a 3.1 build available as well, but I avoided that one. The 3.0 hasn't caused me any problems so far, but if it does I will post here.

Haven't seen one.

But by adding ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa to my software sources I was able to install it easily from the package manager.

You either did something wrong, or you're a troll. Well, it's mostly a good community. You get your occasional idiot in any internet forum, and I guess here we have AK Dave. Thanks to everyone else. And thanks for the comments on Fedora. I booted up the LiveCD and wasn't all that impressed. I've go...

Re: Ok, I'm moving on...

That's my approach, too. Actually, four distros with a few shared data partitions. I figure if anything goes wrong with one distro. I can fix it at my leisure, and still be up and running with a different distro. Ok, you guys are inspiring me. Screw Windows. I'm going to put Mint back on. Now I jus...

Re: Ok, I'm moving on...

2 is a good number in Linux. 2 distros, 2 file managers, 2 browsers, 2 backups, in fact 2 of anything that you ever use or think of using. Of course 3 is even better! I have been know to have up to 6 distros going at the same time on the same machine (but that was a bit much even for me). Dual boot...

Re: Ok, I'm moving on...

Well, let me put it this way: I wouldn't consider myself a linux n00b, but Gentoo may as well be voodoo  You have to really know what you're doing to compile everything from source. Ah. Well I'm not going near that then. Sheesh. This guy should have known better than to send me in that directi...

Re: Ok, I'm moving on...

Thanks everyone. I appreciate it. I'm definitely going to be looking at Mint again. Or maybe keep it in a dual-boot setup. I don't have any exotic computer. It's an HP dv2000 laptop. The first time an update broke it I had a lot of customization going on, with AWN and other programs, to give me a sp...
