Re: GIMP.. so bad compared to MS Paint. How to save in jpg?

I don't get though why they call it "export" to save as jpg. Everyone in the universe is used to "save as", then jpg. Why they make the default a file noone ever knows and jpg being obtainable only via "export"?... Many programs (not necessarily just graphics editing programs) use "Export" instead ...

Re: [SOLVED] GIMP.. so bad compared to MS Paint. How to save in jpg?

Linux is not Windows! There IS a learning curve for new users and it seems to be steeper for those who have used Windows the longest. You got that right! It's one reason why I'm still having "fun" with Linux after decades of using Windows. I'll "get there" eventually, though, if I don't die first (...

Re: GIMP.. so bad compared to MS Paint. How to save in jpg?

+1 for Pinta. Try it. I think you'll like it. I too agree about GIMP. It's not very intuitive. I had used a Windows program Adobe Photoshop Elements (a smaller version of Photoshop) for many years and loved it. Intuitive but yet powerful. I didn't find Elements to be very intuitive at all. I used i...

Re: Birthday gift for me [System 76 Darter Pro]

I used the firmware updater to update the BIOS on the Darter Pro. DO NOT DO THIS! I now have a dead system caught in an endless loop of reboots. The message which pops up is gone in a flash. I have updated the bios once before with no issues. This time something REALLY BAD happened to the system. I...

I am not a die hard soccer fan, BUT I really, REALLY loved it when the soccer competition started again in my home country...
What is your home country? It's really annoying when people refer to things in "their country" but do not say where that is or even include it in their forum profile.

Re: Customize the length of the desktop panel

To make the panel shorter just: 1) Right click on the panel, click on panel then Panel Preferences. Uncheck Lock Panel. 2) If Automatically Increase the length is checked, uncheck it. 3) In the Measurements section look for Length (%), move the slider till the panel width is the size you want. 4) Y...

Re: Gnote / Sticky Notes question

If you are using this Sticky Notes Applet (https://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets/view/194), then yes, you can import and export it. When you right click on the applet's icon, you will get an option to "Back up notes" or "Restore from backup". When backing up your notes, you get to choose the...

Re: How to put a "sticky note" on my desktop?

Gnote always felt clunky to me. I've been happy with Sticky Notes (https://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets/view/194). The notes in Sticky Notes don't waste as much screen real estate as Gnote. I can also easily back up the notes.

Re: Birthday gift for me [System 76 Darter Pro]

Just got an email from System 76 and they are sending screws. Very nice of them. I will absolutely use Loc-Tite Blue, Thank you. Be sure to use it sparingly! Even a drop would be too much. I put a drop on a small piece of packing tape on my desk, then dip the first four or five threads into the dro...

Well gosh, the right stickers give you at least 100 extra megahertz, and I am sure that it squeezes some extra ram in there somewhere....:) Actually, to get extra RAM, you have to download it. It is amazing what they can do now... I just gave my credit card info over the phone to a nice fella who c...

Feels good, right? The moment when it finally clicks :D
It's more like a cross between feeling ecstatic and having a DOH! (and palm slap) moment. I had one of those just last Saturday.

Re: Listen to users.

You all may be being a bit too hard on Rtep. I had something similar happen on How to Geek's daily emailed news and tips. You once were able to comment on articles through Disqus (comments are now handled through conventional social media sites, such as Farcebook). Disqus had a "self-monitoring" sys...

Re: How do I get GIMP to save as .jpg?

I'm usually editing jpg's so the .jpg is already in the name and I do not have to select that extension when I select the File > Export As At what point are you receiving the error message? After I edit, and attempt to save. GIMP works similarly to Audacity. Both work only with their own proprietar...

Re: I am totally baffled by the CROP tool in the Drawing app

Try Pix. Gimp is overkill for a simple crop. Drawing is ridiculous, it's not you. Tip for the OP if you try Pix - click on the edit icon towards top right of toolbar, that'll open up a number of options including crop... I agree that Pix is excellent for simple cropping. I use for simple editing qu...

Funnier still is someone mangling it with egregious errors while claiming others mangle it even worse.
That was funny (pot, meet kettle). So I accidentally omitted a word. "Stuff" happens.

Re: Early Christmas gift to me (Lemur Pro)

The new kid, for some reason I cannot get it to rotate properly. I tried in GIMP, and drawing. I haven't had the problem in Mint (yet) but, back in the bad old days of Windows, I got around the problem of forum software rotating an image by using a graphics program to over-rotate the image, such as...
