Re: Don't make the mistake I made using gparted.

...I have noticed that NEMO does not do well with trying to copy folders with huge amount of files. so, I create the 'new folder' and with Split windows, just drag over on smaller folder at a time. Or, just use LuckyBackup and assign it the job, tell it 'RUN' and leave it alone. rsync will do the j...

Re: Don't make the mistake I made using gparted.

RIH, Lady Fitzgerald: In System Settings>Preferences>Screesaver is one, and in System Settings>Hardware>Power Management is another. Also "Enable timer when logging out or shutting down" in System Settings>Preferences may [/b] also affect that. I have always kept it set to "off". For point of refer...

Curious. I thought there was only one--the one in system settings--and that one only allows you to delay it for one hour.
The first item in the list is NEVER.
Well sonnuva gun! I'm either getting blind or senile in my old age (or both). :? Thanks for pointing that out!

Re: Don't make the mistake I made using gparted.

... Lady Fitzgerald If you are still getting screensaver action, most likely you have missed a setting: that's very easy to do since there are a few different places you need to go to get them all..I always miss one on a new install. Curious. I thought there was only one--the one in system settings...

Re: Mouse Settings

Thanks for our response. I have only the one mouse USB, btw) and the *&^%$#@! touch pad has been disabled. I checked the settings again and jiggled the acceleration and sensitivity settings before returning both to slow and suddenly, the mouse "decided" to respond. It now takes two and a quarter inc...

Mouse Settings

I've tried to change my mouse settings in system settings to slow my mouse down. Currently, I can go from one side of a 15" screen to the other side with only 7/8" of travel of the mouse. It stays the same no matter how fast or slowly I move the mouse. That makes fine movements very difficult. No ma...

Re: VLC and Mint 19.3 Mate

Have you made any settings in VLC? If you click on Tools at the top of your screen, there is an entry for Preferences you can click on to change settings. Also, clicking on View give a choice of more settings. There are a huge number of options in the settings so it make take a while to figure out w...

Re: Backup LinuxMint regularly

I never liked scheduled backups. I feel it's pointless to make backups when nothing has been added or changed since the previous backup. At the same time, data can be lost if something goes south after adding it but before the scheduled backup occurs. I do manually run Timeshift every Monday (no par...

Re: Don't make the mistake I made using gparted.

I also learned the Hard Way many years ago. I now have a practice of only doing Image Backups at night, just before I go to bed. I have at times, awoke at 0500 hours and look to see what has happened. the progress bar has moved, but the HDD light is still flickering once in a while. Leave it alone....

Re: Instructions (proper ones) for installing and running CLAMAV

Whilst ClamAV is the only Linux AV software that I know of... Sophos https://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-antivirus-for-linux.aspx is one (the free one is very limited; you have to pay for it to get the full features). This is not an endorsement; just letting you all know it's ou...

Re: Replacement calendar for the panel?

Are you using Mint? If so, the default time on the right end of the panel can be set to show the time, day, and date. Even if you set to show time only, hovering the mouse pointer over it will pop up the day and date. Left clicking on it will pop up a small calendar of the current month. To set it, ...

Re: What USB Mouse do you use for your LinuxMint ?

I use the same Logitech M525 wireless mice (mouses? meece?) I used in Windoze that use Logitech's Unifying Receiver (dongle). A single Unifying Receiver is able to pair up with up to six compatible Logitech devices, such as mice, keyboards, trackballs, etc. I use these mice mostly because they are s...

Re: Linux vulnerabilities

As a person that just started using linux, vulnerabilities are one thing I worry about. I know linux is safe, but since I"m a noob I feel like I may be forgetting something. On windows I had norton, which kept out everything, including harmless stuff lol Norton ( snort ). That thing acted more like...

Re: Backup on google drive

I trust anything Google about as far as I can spit upwind in a class 5 hurricane. Any data you put on Google drive will be spied on by Google and will be used and/or sold by Google for advertising. You would be far better off by simply have more than one backup drive; one you keep at home and a dupl...

I recommend Brave. My backup is Firefox (which almost never gets used) for personal reasons but I do not necessarily recommend it.

Re: Lost Part of my Panel

The left region is back! Woohoo! I'll have to restore the icons and settings but that not a big deal; just a trifle tedious. I'll just chalk it up to being a learning experience. Thanks for your help! Also, thanks for telling me how to backup my settings with Timeshift! I'll check it out after I fin...
