Re: Mint on a Celeron 3865U w/2M Cache, 1.80 GHz, 4 GB RAM

I did several tests of various distros and DEs. Manjaro Budgie is so far the winner. I did a 1-hour Zoom class and no audio dropouts. Native motherboard audio doesn't work, but I have a USB external Soundblaster that works. I chose Budgie because the font rendering looked best on my 40 inch LCD TV. ...

No luck with the new kernel.

It seems that this is related: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... omments/20

I will have to experiment further.

Re: Mint on a Celeron 3865U w/2M Cache, 1.80 GHz, 4 GB RAM

I am able to get sound via the external USB adapter. Re: Mint on a Celeron 3865U w/2M Cache, 1.80 GHz, 4 GB RAM

I went through with this successfully. Two issues: 1) the stock intel audio doesn't work (I have a USB sound card that does) 2) the font rendering on my big 40" LCD under XFCE looks pretty bad, much worse than ChromeOS. Might Mate, or Cinnamon look better? a different DE? or distro?

It appears that Plume may be abandoned; however, this has taken its place:

Re: Is there software to do this? (organization / notes)

Have you looked at Joplin? https://joplinapp.org/ You could create notes within notebooks and subnotebooks and tag to your heart's content. if you make note use "custom" sort order, you can drag them up or down within the notebook or subnotebook. There are all kinds of very interesting plu...

Mint on a Celeron 3865U w/2M Cache, 1.80 GHz, 4 GB RAM

Can anyone speak to their experience on what their experience is with a similar level of hardware with Mint? Celeron 3865U w/2M Cache, 1.80 GHz, 4 GB RAM and an SSD. This is purely a secondary machine for streaming and Zoom (Zoom is a requirement), What DE would you use? P.S. I asked this question p...

Convert my Chromebox to Mint?

Zoom audio often cuts in and out under ChromeOS on my ASUS Chromebox 3. Best I can tell this is purely to do with the Chrome implementation of Zoom. I run Linux Mint on my laptop with the fat Zoom client and while a more powerful machine, audio is never a problem. I am super comfortable with Mint an...

I typically use Shutter or KSnip for screen captures and both have the upload capability built in. Here's Ksnip interface (captured with Shutter) https://i.imgur.com/5KpsGMp.png Here's the same from Shutter (captured via Ksnip) https://i.imgur.com/giPv2rB.png I also use the script here: http://www.w...

Scanner Software Asks for Authentication

gScan2PDF is my favorite, but I get the same behavior with simple-scan. Since updating to 20.1 whenever I launch the software, it will search for the scanner and ask to be authenticated. If I put in my password, all good. If I don't, and just click on cancel, all good. I have a Brother DSmobile620. ...

Re: Smart Phone?

There is a very vibrant community of people who have developed alternative ROMs for various brands of Android based hardware. See if your device is here: https://www.xda-developers.com/ (either look under devices or within the forums). Obviously it won't be Mint, but you can get whatever level of co...

Recent Guide to Setting up Thinkfan?

My fan is making more noise than I would expect on my T480 running 20.1 Cinnamon. I've used Thinkfan before on other Thinkpads and am thinking that I should consider doing it again. I have TLP installed using the defaults, but other than that no tweaks. If you have a Thinkpad and are running TPFan o...

Re: How many distro's have you tried before and after coming to mint?

Started with Ubuntu 8.10 (a long time ago), then switched to Mint, then back to Ubuntu until they went to Unity, then added Gnome on top of Ubuntu, then back to Windows for a few years, then to Pop!_OS, and back to Mint. I came back because Mint just works.. and of course, life is much better than e...

Logitech cameras reliably work with all flavors of Linux. I have a Logitech C920 and can confirm it works. I also have an eMeet C980 and can confirm that to work too.

Love Simple Screen Recorder... the developer's site is helpful in case you get stuck: https://www.maartenbaert.be/simplescreenrecorder/ VokoScreen is another good option. I sometimes use this because it has the ability to inset a webcam while you are screen recording: https://linuxecke.volkoh.de/vok...

Alternative Non Password Authentication to Onboard Fingerprint Reader

I am running Mint 20 on a Thinkpad T480. I was able to get the fingerprint reader to be recognized and register my fingerprints, but performance and reliability were wonky at best. So while technically it works, it's really not usable in the way that the same hardware would work on Windows. Is what ...
