[SOLVED] Re: CHKDSK /f After Wiping Windows

1) Safest way to do this is with Windows, but since I wiped Windows, I need something to boot from that was Windows. I used Hiren's: http://mirror.metrocast.net/hbcd/HBCD_PE_x64.iso 2) Wasn't able to successfully create a bootable USB for it from Linux (some people have been able to, so Google it if...

Re: CHDSK /f After Wiping Windows

Mint if fully functional and has been running for 7 months. I just removed a dualboot and am about to do some partition moving so I wanted to clone the whole drive. System: Host: kenny-ThinkPad-X230 Kernel: 4.20.14-042014-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 8.2.0 Desktop: Cinnamon 4.0.10 wm: mu...

[SOLVED] CHKDSK /f After Wiping Windows

I have NTFS drives with data on them and am attempting to image my hard drive after wiping Windows. Clonezilla is complaining about one of the drives (which was NOT the former OS/boot drive) saying that a disk check had been scheduled. It says that I should use fsck, but it seems that people are say...

Re: Removed Windows. Need help thinking through reclaiming space.

@Zcot your plan make sense to me; however, what about my extended vs. Primary issue? Is the solution to create empty / and /home in my unallocated space, then copy the current sda7 and sda8 there via something like DD or in Gparted (is that an option). And if I did that, what would I need to do to e...

Removed Windows. Need help thinking through reclaiming space.

Decided to nuke Windows 10. I used Gparted to delete the partitions and then used Boot Repair to fix booting. Kept my fingers crossed, and all is good :-) Now I want to reclaim the 155gb that I are now at the front of my disk. Right now everything in an Extended partition, which I'm not sure is bad....

Xplayer Asks for MPEG-4 ACC decoder every time

When I try to play MP4 files, this is what I see.

If I install the plugin, audio doesn't play. If I open the same file in VLC, no problem.

Re: How many are 100% Linux here?

I have been back and forth with Windows since 2009, including completely ditching dual boot for a while. For business reasons, I ended up switching back to Windows 10 (single boot) for a few years, but have run Mint 19.1 in dual boot mode since December 2018. I am in the "just in case" camp on my Wi...

[SOLVED] Re: Crossover and Office 365?

I was able to install O365 and O2016 with Crossover and they perform acceptably. A couple of caveats. 1) the install complains about issues with libesane, which is specific to scanning and in my case is irrelevant 2) One has to choose the 32-bit version during the install process (setup32.exe). So f...

Re: Crossover and Office 365?

Powerpoint has some specific tools that I've yet to see in alternatives. I've been trying to use LibreOffice Impress mostly, but it's not quite there. I can live with Writer and Calc. I'm having some issues installing CrossOver and O2016. Waiting to hear back from the CrossOver folks. I've reliably ...

[SOLVED] Re: Open With Photoshop CS2/Wine

I got this working properly by appending with: \"z:%f\" env WINEPREFIX="/home/kenny/.wine" /opt/wine-staging/bin/wine C:\\windows\\command\\start.exe /Unix /home/kenny/.wine/dosdevices/c:/users/kenny/Start\ Menu/Programs/Adobe\ Photoshop\ CS2.lnk The whole string gets added to the "custom command" i...

Open With Photoshop CS2/Wine

I have Photoshop CS2 installed and it runs properly. Somehow during the setup process, the Open With integration with Nemo was never established. I would like to be able to click on a .psd and have it OpenWith Photoshop. I found the desktop file that was created, and it points to this: env WINEPREFI...

Resize VMWare .vmdk from CLI?

My windows 7 VM is running out of space. I've tried trimming it down with no luck. Resizing is possible via the VMWare Player GUI, but in spit of having spare GBs to allocate to the machine, I'm not able to go through this process because the GUI doesn't have enough room. Apparently one needs twice ...

Re: Google Drives

If you are not opposed to using a closed-source paid product, I recommend Insync: https://www.insynchq.com/ Their client works directly within Mint.

They have been at this a while, so their product is very mature. I have been using it since 2013.

Re: Wired Ethernet Internet Speed Concerns

Thanks for chiming in. Some of these things I've already done. My router is already set to 1.1.1.1. I do run VPN sometimes, but usually it's on/off and only when I need it (and mostly not when I'm doing video or VoIP). Also, I've been logging Internet speed hourly using speetest-cli and piping the o...

Wired Ethernet Internet Speed Concerns

I do a lot of web conferencing and VoIP and sometimes performance is jiittery and subpar. I realize that this may be my provider's issue, and some ongoing testing is showing much poorer upload performance then down. I work out of two different locations and had my cable provider change out my cable ...
