Re: Crossover and Office 365?

Powerpoint has some specific tools that I've yet to see in alternatives. I've been trying to use LibreOffice Impress mostly, but it's not quite there. I can live with Writer and Calc. I'm having some issues installing CrossOver and O2016. Waiting to hear back from the CrossOver folks. I've reliably ...

Love VMs, just trying to see if I can live without one for some basic day to day stuff.

[SOLVED] Re: Open With Photoshop CS2/Wine

I got this working properly by appending with: \"z:%f\" env WINEPREFIX="/home/kenny/.wine" /opt/wine-staging/bin/wine C:\\windows\\command\\start.exe /Unix /home/kenny/.wine/dosdevices/c:/users/kenny/Start\ Menu/Programs/Adobe\ Photoshop\ CS2.lnk The whole string gets added to the "custom command" i...

Open With Photoshop CS2/Wine

I have Photoshop CS2 installed and it runs properly. Somehow during the setup process, the Open With integration with Nemo was never established. I would like to be able to click on a .psd and have it OpenWith Photoshop. I found the desktop file that was created, and it points to this: env WINEPREFI...

Resize VMWare .vmdk from CLI?

My windows 7 VM is running out of space. I've tried trimming it down with no luck. Resizing is possible via the VMWare Player GUI, but in spit of having spare GBs to allocate to the machine, I'm not able to go through this process because the GUI doesn't have enough room. Apparently one needs twice ...

Joining Skype for Business Meeting via Chromium/Chrome/Firefox?

I received a meeting request today to join a Skype for Business meeting. There were two options in the invite, Meeting<https://meet.lync.com/blah/john.dough/4G0JD8ZR> Trouble Joining? Try Skype Web App<https://meet.lync.com/blah/john.dough/4G0JD8ZR?sl=1> Both let me to a web page which never rendere...

Re: Google Drives

If you are not opposed to using a closed-source paid product, I recommend Insync: https://www.insynchq.com/ Their client works directly within Mint.

They have been at this a while, so their product is very mature. I have been using it since 2013.

Re: Wired Ethernet Internet Speed Concerns

Thanks for chiming in. Some of these things I've already done. My router is already set to 1.1.1.1. I do run VPN sometimes, but usually it's on/off and only when I need it (and mostly not when I'm doing video or VoIP). Also, I've been logging Internet speed hourly using speetest-cli and piping the o...

Wired Ethernet Internet Speed Concerns

I do a lot of web conferencing and VoIP and sometimes performance is jiittery and subpar. I realize that this may be my provider's issue, and some ongoing testing is showing much poorer upload performance then down. I work out of two different locations and had my cable provider change out my cable ...

Re: Migrate Settings and Apps to New Machine

That's the first step. Clean install on the new machine then run Aptik. Check if it restored your hidden files and directories, I'm not sure if it does or not. If it does then you'll need to add --exclude=".*" to exclude them from the rsync command below.
Why would you want to exclude the hiddens?

Migrate Settings and Apps to New Machine

I know this has been asked a zillion times in a zillion ways, but I want to replicate my current configuration on a new machine with the least amount of work. I have this thing tweaked the way I like it and don't want to go through all the steps to document and replicate. Pure backup wise, I have my...

Re: How to include screenshot in a post [SOLVED]

If you don't already use Shutter, it's a great screen capture tool that has an "export" feature that allows you to upload a screenshot to an image sharing service and workaround the forum attachment size issues. Workflow is super easy via "rimg" option. Here's an example https://i.imgur.com/CNqPbei....

Speedtest-CLI as a Desklet?

I am having issues with my ISP regarding consistency of upload/download. I discovered https://github.com/sivel/speedtest-cli in my hopes of finding a test that wouldn't involve my browser. Works well, but would like a way to park this on my Cinnamon desktop somehow without having to call up a termin...

Editor to Markup Guitar Fretboard Grid with Fingerings

I want to annotate (or create) a page of fretboard grids whereby I add circled numbers to the grids to represent fingering/patterns. I did this in Shutter https://i.imgur.com/QqMZjvx.png I opened the blank grid in Shutter and used the auto-increment tool which creates perfect cirlced numbers, but it...
