ToDoIst Won't complete Install "Nemo cannot handle "com.todist" locatiions

I have had a temporary Mint hiatus but just installed Mint 21 Cinnamon from scratch. I tried to install the appimage of ToDoist and the appimage launches but it passes me to the browser to complete the login. After getting authenticated it tries to pass me back to the app, and yields the following. ...

Re: Mirror Linux Mint desktop to LG SmartTV via CAT6 cable

Celeron mini PCs going for 120 bucks online. +1 suggestion Good point... Here's how I solved the problem. Repurposed my Mom's Thinkpad X1 Carbon circa 2014. Her IT guy deemed this unworthy of an upgrade. I bought a cheap mount that screwed into the wall. I actually have Windows on this box, but con...

Re: audio recording in Linux. slightly off topic [studio linux]

I too was completely flabergasted by Jack, but have since tamed it via the KX Repos and Ubuntu Studio on top of Mint. I was using a low-latency kernel, but just using a regular one right now. Re: Mirror Linux Mint desktop to LG SmartTV via CAT6 cable

Is it a straight shot, not going through a switch, hub, or router? If so, there are devices called baluns that can do this over long distances. Just search for HDMI balun.

Re: Poll.... How often do you reinstall your computer?

Just another perspective. I didn't vote in the poll as I wasn't sure what choice matches my experience. I admit to being a risk-taker upgrader. I figure confused. But I am also of the belt and suspender variety backup-wise. I keep a relatively recent complete hard drive clone that I periodically ref...

Re: Shutter misbehaving

I love Shutter and there have been times when it got wonky for me in the past. For me it's working fine in 20.3 with 0.99.2

Are you using: ppa:linuxuprising/shutter?

Also, perhaps post your issue here? https://github.com/shutter-project/shutter/issues

Re: Linux DEB (64-bit) or Linux RPM (64-bit)?

FWIW, try as I might to use Team via the Linux app, it has worked very poorly for me (I keep hoping it will get better). I keep coming back to joining Teams meetings in my browser (I use Vivaldi). I am part of a partner's organization and use Teams chat and calling regularly with them, also in a bro...

Re: How to force clipboard to only use plain text?

I am a big fan of the Clipboard Manager CopyQ: https://hluk.github.io/CopyQ/ In CopyQ one can create shortcuts to various clipboard behaviors. While this is not the same as the disabling you'd prefer, this would give you what you want independent of a specific application's behavior. https://i.imgur...

Re: Laptop does not see bluetooth headset

What kernel are you running? In my experience, this can be a significant difference-maker BT-wise. Since it's an easy change and easily revertable, I would update your kernel and see if it makes a difference. I believe that you are likely on 5.4 based on your saying that it's stock. Depending on how...

Re: flatpak, AppImage, Snap

FWIW, in some cases, you won't have a choice. For example, I use Joplin, a fully open-source notetaking app. If one chooses Linux, one will get an appimage with no other choices. I also use ToDoist, where my only choices are appimage or SNAP. I really like and respect these apps, so I have to respec...

Re: Backup software?

I strongly suggest an offsite backup in the mix too (can be in addition to other methods). I don't use it anymore, but pCloud is an automated option that would work well for a non-tech savvy person. I recommend paying for such a service. I personally clone my machine to an external drive periodicall...

Re: Booting From and Saving to USB

Just for another option, and only needing one USB stick to do it.. @Rick, I didn't know about this :-) Question, is this "full" persistence? Meaning, if one installs applications, does updates to the OS, and saves files (e.g. including personal documents), does that all persist? Can one f...

Re: Booting From and Saving to USB

FWIW, I have run Mint and several other DEs for extended periods of time directly off a USB by doing a full install to that USB as described in the referred post. This has been my go-to method before fully committing to installing on the internal drive. Performance suffered a little, but not as much...

[SOLVED] Re: Is there a way to Toggle Lockscreen Screensaver via Keyboard

I knew that there was something missing, and it was in a different settings branch. Turns out that I needed to add: gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.session idle-delay '0' The revised complete script. #!/bin/bash # get the current setting of the screensaver lock lock_enabled=$(gsettings get org.ci...

Re: Revert back to windows from linux

Is it Windows 10 you are trying to get back to? If you want to restore Windows on that SSD, the safest and recommended way is to somehow get the Windows .ISO here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO How hosed are you? Do you have access to another PC running Windows to ma...
