Thank you for this post. This helped me as well. It was driving me nuts.

Re: [SOLVED] Blurry and fading text...

I ran across a post that seemed to be exactly like the issue I was having. Doing what this person did, delete the ".nvidia-settings-rc" file from my home folder and rebooting appears to have fixed my text issue. Granted I am only on reboot #2, but with how this has been acting lately, that is very g...

[SOLVED] Blurry and fading text...

Has anyone seen a case in Linux Mint where the text turns blurry and very light? I have seen it multiple times after building my machine with Mint 19.3. I did see a few cases in 19.2, but not nearly as much. I have tried different kernels. I have tried different Nvidia drivers and even the Nouveu dr...

Re: Installing Mint 19.3 on Raid 5

I have seen many posts that grub can be installed on Raid 1 , but that page you linked actually gave me some ideas to try. Thank you for this. I did not run across this page during my searches. I also was looking at relatively inexpensive hardware raid cards yesterday. I didn't find one with enough ...

Re: Lifetime Windows user.. damned if I'm gonna use Windows 10!

Till 2004 eh? I didn't use my Packard Bell 33 MHz SX with 4MB (upgraded from 2 for $600), and 20MB hdd for that long. It was close to 2000 though. By then it had a Pentium overdrive CPU and 40MB drive in it. Think the ram stayed the same though.

Re: Should I run upgrade from v19.2 to v19.3 ?

As someone that doesn't keep data on local drives (immediately goes to cloud storage) and I don't worry about local save games, I like seeing new versions come out and usually upgrade immediately. Going from 19.2 to 19.3 was flawless for me and really didn't take long. Granted there were some things...

Re: Installing Mint 19.3 on Raid 5

When I used the Ubuntu alternate installer, I was able to install grub to a 500MB partition on all 5 drives set up as a raid 1. That is the only raid that I have seen supported. The rest of each drive was set up as a raid 5 and worked perfectly. I have to believe it can be done. Maybe just not Mint....

Re: Installing Mint 19.3 on Raid 5

Setting up raided storage arrays hasn't been difficult for me so I am confident there. I am looking to boot on a raided drive...and there is the challenge. I see enough people claiming they have done it on Raid 1s and some cryptic posts about a raid 0. To answer your questions... 1. I am strictly de...

Re: Installing Mint 19.3 on Raid 5

Been over 48 hours so I wanted to do a bump and post and hopefully elicit some responses. So after using the Ubuntu alternate installer, and using it to create 500 MB primary partitions on my five 80 GB drives (in Raid 1), and the rest as a primary partition set up in a raid 5, the installer knew wh...

Re: Alternate Installer...

I can certainly see how that would be nice performance, but this is for a home PC, not a server. Therefore having a hardware raid controller is not feasible. Also, not even the Ubuntu Alternate Installer (for desktop anyway) supports Raid 50 or other specialized raids like that. If I recall correctl...

I can say, with confidence, that the Nvidia GTX 1060 has drivers available. That is what I am using now.

Re: Upgraded Win 7 to Win 10, GRUB shows 2 boot options for 7, none for 10

I don't have an answer for you about how to edit the Grub. I did read that it could be risky and may get reset upon a kernel update anyway. What I can say, however, is I saw this too when I was setting up Win10, and four linux distros in a multiboot scenario. It corrected itself after a reboot/updat...

Alternate Installer...

I saw some other posts in this section about this, but most were really really old so I wanted to see about bringing this up again. Will there ever be an alternate installer for Linux Mint like what Ubuntu has? I don't know how much of an undertaking this would be, so if it will be very time consumi...

Re: Installing Mint 19.3 on Raid 5

So, an update to this, but not the end result I was wanting.... While waiting to see if there was someone that had the information I was missing to set up LM in this format I downloaded and used the Ubuntu Alternate installer for 19.10. It was easy to set up, on all five drives, a 100MB /boot partit...

Re: How to install & run Mint on an external SSD?

Windows won't be able to spy on it as it doesn't know how to use the ext4 file system so you would technically be safe.

Re: Help with Finding Best Distro & Prof. Quality Video Editing Software

Might I propose Distrowatch.com? From that page you choose Find/Submit Distro, Search for Distro, then in the Distribution Catagory choose areas of interest. When I chose Multimedia and then Submit Query at the bottom, I got a list of six distros. From there research and see which may fit your need ...

Oh no. That isn't what I meant by wrong torrents. I have always gotten OS's from official sources. I am talking "other software".

Re: How to install & run Mint on an external SSD?

Are you looking for a dual boot type setup or the ability to boot to one or the other? If the former, then after starting up the Live CD and choosing Install Mint, you choose the external drive by selecting "Something Else" when prompted for install location options. You will have to set up partitio...
