Re: Old laptop, should I upgrade to 19.3?

I put Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon 64-bit with kernel 5.3.0-28 on a 12-year old Lenovo ThinkPad T61 with 4GB RAM and a 320 GB HDD. No issues.

ACPID not loading properly

I installed Linux Mint Cinnamon 64-bit on a Lenovo ThinkPad T61 a few weeks ago. I can't get ACPID to load properly on boot. I discovered this when I saw that ACPID events only work when I manually restart ACPID as a root user after each computer boot. It stays working as long as the PC is not shutd...

Re: Help with errors in dmesg (ACPI and 1 other) on ThinkPad

Turns out I was mistaken about stopping the ACPI messages during boot. They periodically still show up, I'd say about 50/50, maybe a little more. It is just these four lines that are showing up, the only way to get rid of them is to uninstall TLP, but TLP is important on a laptop. [ 34.125266] think...

Re: Help with errors in dmesg (ACPI and 1 other) on ThinkPad

Regarding the weird Acer module, it appears other ThinkPad users have this problem and there's a bug report on it:

Re: Help with errors in dmesg (ACPI and 1 other) on ThinkPad

Turns out a 2nd reboot got rid of the ACPI error messages prior to the log-in screen, strange why it took a 2nd time, but either way, they're not showing up anymore. I also discovered that the ACPI error messages are being caused by TLP. If I uninstall TLP, the ACPI error messages go away. TLP is ve...

Re: Help with errors in dmesg (ACPI and 1 other) on ThinkPad

Thanks for your reply. I followed those instructions for pcie-noaer, but they still are briefly appearing during boot prior to the log-in screen. Looking at dmesg more, it's also trying to load some Apple module: [ 24.016007] applesmc: supported laptop not found! [ 24.016009] applesmc: driver init ...

Help with errors in dmesg (ACPI and 1 other) on ThinkPad

I have Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon installed on a Lenovo ThinkPad T61. When I run dmesg, the following errors come up: [ 25.704901] acer_wmi: Acer Laptop ACPI-WMI Extras [ 25.704910] acer_wmi: No or unsupported WMI interface, unable to load [ 26.046781] Bluetooth: BNEP (Ethernet Emulation) ver 1.3 [ 26...

Re: Can't remote from Windows 10 to Linux Mint 19.3

Works in Debian but doesn't work in Mint? Hmmmmm, Isn't Ubuntu Linux based on Debian, and Mint is based on Ubuntu, If that's true then that program should work.Everybody seems to blame Mint for their connection problems to winwoes 10..I have two (2) winwoes 10 computers, both using Pro version and ...

Re: Linux Mint 19.3 Cinammon 64 bit - very slow boot time

I did a clean install too, fully wiping out the Windows 7 installation that was on it.

Do you remember if you had the long boot times before you did whatever change you made via grub?

Are you on an SSD or HDD? What Windows OS did you have before and what were the boot times like?

Re: Can't remote from Windows 10 to Linux Mint 19.3

The only way I have managed to do this is following a guide which in the end needs a ssh tunnel. Than you can use this tunnel to connect to a VNC server. It's a painstaking process and a quite unusible solution that I won't reccomand. The fact that several people on this forum only suggest using no...

Re: Linux Mint 19.3 Cinammon 64 bit - very slow boot time

I'm surprised it's taking you this long to boot your PC. Clearly from the specs, you have a much faster machine than mine than mine. I installed Mint 19.3 Cinnamon 64-bit on a 12-year old Lenovo ThinkPad T61 with an Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 Penryn processor, 4GB DDR2 RAM, and a 320 GB 7200RPM hard dri...

Teamviewer works for me on LM 19.3.
You can't use Teamviewer with Microsoft's Remote Desktop though, can you?

I'm looking for something in Linux that interfaces with the native Remote Desktop that comes built into Windows.

Thank you! Re: Fingerprint GUI working for login and sudo only

I really don't think the correct advice to someone who has just come to LM is to turn off passwords. Maybe I misread the thread and the ADHD is kicking in, but if you can't get your fingerprint to work, then just use Veracrypt or whatever for your work files or files you are worried about going mis...

Fingerprint GUI working for login and sudo only

Just to preface, I'm brand new to Linux, having just installed Linux Mint 19.3 on an old Windows 7 laptop due to Windows 7 reaching its EOL. So definitely a beginner here. I've installed Fingerprint GUI and it's working great, but Linux only prompts fingerprint authentication for logging in and sudo...
