Re: HOW TO PROMOTE LINUX MINT TO THE AVERAGE SCHLUB
These are great ideas. Specially the hardware list part. I think it would be better to apply a script so to check hardware support in a pc running windows, so that if it has good support, then the user installs linux mint. For the college things, I think that local comunities of linux mint users sho...

Re: Suggest Software for Helena
My wife thinks that Mint ought to include the Gimpshop instead of Gimp. She finds the Gimp too different from that other program she is used to. http://www.gimpshop.com/index.shtml It is the one bit of unhappiness she is experiencing with Gloria, and it has kept Vista on her laptop. You can still i...

PDF embedded in firefox, inclusion in LM
I recently made a comparison between adobe reader and evince. They were practicaly the same with the difference that Adobe Reader is closed source and could open PDF files directly form firefox and also it's VERY heavy in comparison to evince. Also, Evince is open source BUT it can't open pdf files ...

mintUpload & mintBackup cool features
Helo, im here again. This week i had a terrible brainstorm, caus i was thinking a way in which these tools could be improved. OK let's start: mintUpload - I don't want to hurt Linux Mint team, but i thinks you should stop using the mintspace service. Perhaps, you could contact more "one-click&q...

Re: 64 bit version as "main" version?
I totaly agree. Perhaps the 32 bit version should be released after the 64 bit version. Also a small app to check if your computer is 64 bits capable should made available for download so to let the users check if they have a 64 bit processor

WINE Shiki-Mint theme + GTK Gui
Mint is well known for it's beautifull artwork, but when you run a windows app via wine, it looks pretty ugly don't you think so? So maybe, i thought that maybe a wine theme *.msstyle could be made and included, so that every windows app instaled via wine, could have the beautifull linux mint look. ...

Re: Mint Update Icons
I think its a good idea. Maybe in what its related to noobs, maybe a label should be displayed when the cursor hoovers over the icon like saying "The sistem is up-to-date" or "There are 12 apdate(s) available". I don't think these changes would make any difference to noobs. Even,...

Re: Mint Install Tweak
yes, i know but imagine, you just installed mint and you are looking for software. If you made a lot of changes and then you hit apply, MAYBE you ticked something to instal or remove and so maybe you end up installing/uninstalling X software by accident

Mint Install Tweak
I recently was testing the new version of Mint Install and i discovered an issue: When you select what changes to make and then pres apply changes, the changes start. I think it would be better to ask for example: ----------------------------------------------------------- "Are you sure you wan...

Re: deactivate compiz (Script that could be merged into mint)
if you try to watch a 1080p movie with compiz, you loose performance. With this you could set up for example, that when you open totem, compiz is deactivated. Sorry yf you thought that it was only for games. Also yf you use blender or if you use programs that demand opengl, you would get very low pe...

deactivate compiz (Script that could be merged into mint)
here i found a script that could be merged into mint, which lets deactivate compiz. Maybe it could be modified so to make that when the game is closed, compiz is re started. It could be added as a launcher option: "Deactivate compiz when running this app" and a checkbox. Now the script: ht...

Re: New Mint install (mock up) somehow easier for the New user
that's why i like gnome add/remove. Simple. You see the stars (if you need them) click the checkbox and then install. Simple, fast and when looking for a peculiar software, i can easily find it by it's icon. In mintInstal, this isn't possible. That's why I beg Clem to make these changes or at least ...

dialog window which asks user if install certain app
the other day i made a post requesting to include WINE in linux mint by default. Somebody there said that it could be dangerous because WINE is, nowadays, so good that it can run viruses!!. So i thought and i came up with a great idea to "implement" WINE, without haveing to install it. Let...

Also a category called "installed apps" could be included in the categories panel, so that the user could check easily all the aplications that he/she has installed in his/her system
