Re: <SOLVED> 'locate' command finds files only in root
Your reply was useful and pointed me in the right direction. By looking at the output of 'sudo updatedb --debug-pruning' I was able to see that the 'ecryptfs' file system was being excluded, thereby 'locate' would not list any files in my 'home' directory. Therefore I edited /etc/updatedb by deletin...

<SOLVED> 'locate' command finds files only in root
Laptop with Mint 19.2 Mate and encrypted home directory. I know about 'sudo updatedb' and how it refreshes the file database, but when searching for file(s) I am finding that the only ones listed are in root. Everything in 'home' is ignored. Is this caused in some way by the encrypted home directory...

Re: How to remove a Linux Mint system installed alongside another Linux Mint system without making the computer unbootab
Let's describe Windows as operating system OS1 your first Mint installation as OS2 and your unwanted 2nd Mint installation as OS3. Fire up your laptop, and when you get to the grub screen select OS2. This is the one you want to keep, correct? OS2 is probably not the default OS if you have been using...

Re: Mouse speed kernel 4.13.0-26
Try this: Do this to reduce mouse speed. In terminal: xinput --list shows that mouse is device id 11 (your's might be different). then do xinput --set-prop 11 "Device Accel Constant Deceleration" 3 The default level appears to be '1'. The higher this number the slower the mouse. I have fou...

Re: [Not Solved] The “Meltdown” bug is hitting Intel
Quite prepared to recognise that I may be naïve, but why does this matter provided that you have a firewall active on your computer? I have my ufw firewall set up so that only specified machines on my local network can gain access. Probably I'm missing something, so perhaps someone could enlighten m...

Re: Startup script re brightness/contrast fails
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately the effect of this was that the system would not boot! Easily recovered though, by using a live CD. I see that /etc/profile.d already included two other scripts 'bash_completion.sh' and 'vte.sh'. Perhaps they are incompatible in some way with my script. Chang...

Startup script re brightness/contrast fails
I am using Mint17 Mate 64-bit on my Fujitsu Lifebook A514. Like many other people with various hardware I need to find a way of adjusting the screen brightness/contrast. I have made a script which is included in the Startup Applications: #!/bin/bash xbacklight -set 60 && xgamma -gamma 0.60 e...
