Re: Linux Mint 20 success or issues

Two more bugs: 1. Unlike Tricia, Ulyana does not see Wine. It has to be told to get Wine to run .exe files. 2. Unlike in Tricia, in Ulyana TheWord complains that "File [C:\users\user-name\Temp\1893565796\HiSB.otx.exe] is not a known file type or archive." Tricia does not make this complaint at all, ...

Re: Linux Mint 20 success or issues

Just did a fresh install of Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon. First bug experienced: the terminal would not open, whether I click on the panel, the quick launcher, the menu launcher, or press CTL+ALT+T. Neither does clicking on "Open in Terminal" in Nemo open the terminal. Update: Installed Konsole, and it wo...

Re: [SOLVED] Stuck on black screen with blinking cursor after Mint logo (Cinnamon)

Found out that the problem has actually been solved, and I have finally reinstalled Cinnamon. The problem was that, upon booting, Mint 19.3 (and LMDE4 and Ubuntu 20.04 and Linux Lite 4.8 and Makulu Lindoz 2020-03-31), first goes through a series of lines with "nouveau," takes a long time before the ...

Re: Stuck on black screen with blinking cursor after Mint logo (Cinnamon)

I found the way to stop/kill iwlwifi here https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=152147. Thanks deminted. I had actually tried this before but thought it didn't work. Turns out that I just didn't know how to save nano changes in the blacklist.conf file. So your method stopped and killed iwlwif...

Re: Purging iwlwifi from LM

Sorry, Elli, but your solution does not work. Apparently, iwlwifi is not a package. What did work for me as far as stopping/killing iwlwifi is this here viewtopic.php?t=152147.

More info re my issue is here viewtopic.php?f=46&t=319747.

Re: Cannot boot LM19.3x64 after May 8, 2020 system update

Boot repair is saying to boot by USB drive but this system does not have option to boot from USB drive, It only boots from USB-HDD, USB-CDROM and etc. NativeNewYorker, booting from USB-HDD is exactly the same as booting from USB drive . Insert a bootable USB stick with LM19.3x64 iso in it and boot ...

Purging iwlwifi from LM

Will someone please teach this newbie how to purge iwlwifi from LM 19.3 Cinnamon. I believe it is causing my LM (kernel 5.0/5.3) to boot into a black screen, as described here https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=319162. I'm desperate for a solution. Can anyone please teach me how to pr...

Stuck on black screen with blinking cursor after Mint logo (Cinnamon)

I have been having the same problem as described here after reinstalling Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon dual boot with Windows 10. I no longer remember the things I've read and done, what with the exhaustion and desperation after 2 sleepless days and nights reinstalling Cinnamon countless times and trying...

Re: Android_x86 - How to set up dual boot with Mint in 5 mins.

So the partition it's on is mounted as /home, so it's full path as far as that partition is concerned should be just /android-x86 Yaaaay!!! Android is now in triple boot with Win10 and Linux Mint 19.3 on my laptop, and Android is running superfast compared to when it was in Vbox. It was just as you...

Re: Android_x86 - How to set up dual boot with Mint in 5 mins.

Maybe a stupid question - wouldn't it be easier to install as a VM in virtualbox? The problem with VBox is no Guest Additions exist for the Android variant of the kernel and thus there is no 3D acceleration, and thus it runs like a lame duck. I've tried Android in Vbox, from version 5.1 to 8.1 r3, ...

Re: Android_x86 - How to set up dual boot with Mint in 5 mins.

Hi, smurphos, Followed your instructions faithfully, only using /home/android-86 in my case. I managed to get Android-x86 to appear on the grub boot menu, but entering it only returns the following: error: no such device: /home/android-86/system.sfs. [ The file does exist in the stated path . ] erro...

Ivona / SAPI Text To Speech solution

Hello, Linux Mint forum. I am very new to the forum and code-illiterate to boot. I have just been trying out Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon, dual booting it with Windows 10, hoping to ditch the latter soonest. I like what I so far see on Linux Mint, except for what I now understand as its Achilles' heel, ...

Re: Text to Speech in Linux Mint 19.3

2. Is there a reason why TTS seems to be underdeveloped (or, perhaps, just not widely promoted) in Linux? that said i also once made my windows98 talk the same way so i don't know why i was so excited to make linux talk 15 years later. Having been used to Google TTS and even Ivona TTS on my Android...

Text to Speech in Linux Mint 19.3

Hello to the forum that says it is the most welcoming and helpful out there, making Linux Mint the more attractive to me. I have just been fiddling with Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia, seriously considering altogether giving up on Windows 10. I have been impressed with what I see so far, except for one thin...
