Re: Anyone installing Mint on laptops

That's cool. Good way to re-use a Mac.

Again folks, to clarify:, I know how to install Mint and I do it all day every day. I have too many people who need me. (I'm the only person younger than 70 in my city :D)

Cheers

Re: Anyone installing Mint on laptops

Yeah a lot of them do have machines in the closet that I can plop an SSD into, and no 2gb isn't nearly enough for these new ultrabloated websites (Facebook, Gmail, pretty much any new site that has a loading spiral because it's loading an entire OS worth of code). However, a lot of them need a new m...

Re: Anyone installing Mint on laptops

Most of my people are 60-95, and they're intelligent, successful retirees who are tired of being swindled by the Microsoft world. I've made a great living protecting them from all the nonsense. I've earned their trust and they are either new to Mint or want it on a new machine. Yes I usually have to...

Anyone installing Mint on laptops

HI all! I've done independent in-home tech support since 2009. I've installed Mint for at least 1,000 people and they're thrilled to have a machine that "just works" and they don't need me for a very long time. It sort of backfired on me because they then referred all their friends to me. ...

Anybody in my area?

Is there anybody in the Rochester/Western NY area who is proficient with Linux Mint? I do in-home tech support for seniors for a living, and I install Mint for people, with amazing results. All the constant problems and stupidity just stop, and they have a trouble-free life. However, it's backfired ...

Re: Dell Chromebook 11 3120

Ha! What do ya know! It worked! I was just about to give up and put back the old firmware when I decided to check this page one last time to see if anyone had more ideas, and there you were. I told it to update but it wouldn't give me a kernel newer than 4.15 so I implemented the additional instruct...

Re: Dell Chromebook 11 3120

Been reading for 10 years, but this is the first time I'm posting about a tech issue... So I have the same 3120 unit. Everything works incredibly well except sound. (Headphones and HDMI do work.) I refuse to go back to ChromeOS! (And I may have lost the original firmware, ha.) Sometimes when I have ...

Yes, I've got it on my to do list to donate more to Mint. Also that's a good idea, I'll add the book to my signature on the forum! Here it is: https://www.amazon.com/How-Protect-Yourself-Your-Computer/dp/0692815465/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2OUJXLAO16S8X&keywords=how+to+protect+yourself+from+your+computer...

That's a great point. I don't think any have but I'll try and remember to tell them they can donate.
I donate myself but not as much as I should. I'll work on that too!

I've had great success installing Mint for tons of seniors/beginners in my town

Hey all, Long-time listener, first-time poster. My name is Marc, I do in-home tech support for seniors/boomers/beginners. I've been installing Mint for my clients since 2011, and they're thrilled. Sure I've got a few people who need to run 1991 business software, but the majority of my clients just ...

Re: Neighbors Computer

Hi guys! I've been reading the fora for years but finally had time to register. -Yes, I NEVER use the word Linux in the initial conversation. I tell people it's a magical new product called Mint, and it's magical and perfect. -It's too good to be true, really. People are so conditioned to live in fe...
