getting an acer integrated card reader to work

I have an Acer TravelMate 4650 with a built in card reader that I would like to get working but I do not know where to start. I have done lspci and this seems to be the relevant bit 05:04.0 CardBus bridge: ENE Technology Inc CB-712/4 Cardbus Controller (rev 10) 05:04.1 FLASH memory: ENE Technology I...

Metisse

if we are going down the road of having Beryl/Compiz installed by default could we think about having Metisse installed aswell. It is not as eyecandyish as the other 2, but it does seem to have lower overheads and do things aimed slightly more at productivity than either of the others.

it depends on the ATI card newer cards do not work with beryl certainly. I managed to get it installed and configured on my system (radeon X1800) but it always crashes back to the default gnome desktop.

one thing I found with Linux MCE is that it takes ages to get to the configuration section of the install, so long that I thought it had crashed the first time I installed it and turned it off, so it might be worth leaving it a bit longer and seeing whether it actually gets there.

looks really great from what I have seen using the Live CD (have not got round to installing it yet). I have created a torrent at LinuxTracker if anyone wants to use that http://linuxtracker.org/torrents-detail ... 3997&hit=1

I think making the CD/DVD a repository only works if you have the .deb packages on, not if you have the program installed on it. I am not sure how you would install the programs.

I did try and install it on top of mint, but only twice. It did not seem to like it, but it could have been anything as I then swapped to ubuntu to check that the package CD was actually working. You can set it up in one of 2 ways; "primarily a PC" where it boots into the installed OS, and...

I suspect that you may be right about your graphics card since a quick googleing reveals it to be a "vista ready" card, thus it may work in a slightly different way to its predecessors, or it may simply just be too new. sorry for the lack of specific help but I am just about to go home fro...

linuxMCE

not exactly a single new feature request but it might be interesting to have a look at. LinuxMCE was recently released as a working project for Ubuntu, but I have not been able to get it working under Linux mint. I was wondering if it would be possible to have a look at getting it working under mint...

if you go to the front page of the forums and scroll down to between the bottom of the announcements and the top of the forum index, on the right hand side there is "mark all forums read" which should do what you want.

it does seem to be more of a KDE thing, but a quick googling revealed this thread http://www.ubuntuforums.org/archive/ind ... -8108.html which may be of some use, or here if you feel up to using PHP http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/66092.html

I have no direct experience with tough books but since it is mostly older hardware that is used in them Linux should have no problems with it for the most part.
