Re: Why LMDE 6 is better than standard Mint Cinnamon?
I have two PC's and a laptop. The PC's are running standard Mint and the laptop is running LMDE 6. To be honest I forget which is running what at times, all three are running flawlessly. I will switch to LMDE edition on all of them at some point as I would just prefer a Debian base but I am not goin...

[Solved] Advert Block Antix
Hi guys Has anyone considered making a tool like this available in Mint? I used MX Linux a while back and found Advert Block Antix very useful. The files for the tool are here https://github.com/antiX-Linux/advert-block-antix/tree/master I can find no information on Advert Block Antix being used in ...

Re: connecting bluetooth headset but can not play it
I am new to LMDE, I have just installed 6 and it looks and feels solid. I am presently going through the inevitable error messages, most appear benign but there is a Bluetooth entry (uetoothd): sap-server: Operation not permitted (1) I do not use Bluetooth so I am not particularly bothered with this...

Re: My first time with lmde
Hi I am of the same mind. There are many in the Linux world that do not trust Canonical and wish to move away from Ubuntu based distro's. I like regular Mint and use it daily on three machines but I have noted the concern out there and will install LMDE 6 on my laptop as soon as it is released, if i...

System Settings/Power Options issue [Mint Cinnamon 21.1]
Hi I have a minor problem with "Suspend when inactive" My PC appears to be suspending when the screen turns off. Settings were all default, 30 mins for the screen and Never for Suspend. I have changed Suspend when inactive from Never to 3hrs [An option for a longer period would be good], I...

Re: Mint 20.1 - Where are the NVIDIA 450 Drivers?
Hi
Similar problem here, Cinnamon crashes and/or PC freezes with both 460 & 465 drivers, running fine on 390. The 450 driver has worked flawlessly since I installed Mint 20 when it was released, the option to install 450 should be made available again asap.

Re: LM 20.0 an utter disaster on less than latest hardware.
The closed proprietary operating system you refer to is Windows, nothing else is worth mentioning, Linux exists to provide an alternative. They have been at it for years and its more buggy now that ever. 25 years ago Linux was rock solid, it was just useless, no software support, but now when it can...

Re: LM 20.0 an utter disaster on less than latest hardware.
I have been running LM 20 since it was released, once I have logged in the OS runs perfectly, no complaints there at all. The problem comes at start up and shut down/restart, ACPI error messages galore, this forum is full of complaints and requests for assistance on the matter. Initially I reinstall...

Same problem here, installed LMDE4 instead.
I had no problems at all with 19.3 on the same PC, disappointing.

How would you all feel if Microsoft were to buy Canonical?

LMDE is looking very attractive to me after reading this article.

Re: Terminal problems
Its not so much performance but wear and tear on the SSD drive, there is no way to measure that. I have 16gb of ram installed which will minimise swap usage, the tweak is "optional" in the guide with that amount of ram. I am working my way through the guide to get to know the system more t...

Re: Terminal problems
Hi Thanks for the response. Firstly when I installed Mint I understood that the password created was a user password and that a root password had to be created later, is that right? If so how do you do it? I managed to access the sysctl.conf file and modify it, the swappiness setting is now set to 1...

[Solved] Terminal problems
Hi I have installed the latest build of Mint, very pleased with how it all went. The system is running smoothly but there are a few tweaks I want to apply, one is to adjust the swap use, when I apply this command xed admin:///etc/sysctl.conf I get this response ** (xed:5012): WARNING **: 12:12:34.38...
