Re: Award for breaking MS Linux

In a manner of speaking, I think people have transitioned away from using regular desktops to (principally) smart phones not so much because the desktop is "legacy" but because previously there was no other option for the kinds of things people wanted/needed to do, like messaging and email. Then th...

then Install that Ubuntu Studio 20.04 to the New Partition: - - it's own Grub Boot Loader / Menu will then control the machine instead of wthe LinuxMint system, that is currently controlling the machine. :) Which can cause a headache and is one of the first problems people run into when doing such ...

You also need to consider if your machine is PAE or non-PAE. Haha You guys crack me up around here omg. Go research what that really means please. Picky, picky, picky :!:  Not really. It was just funny to me since it wouldn't make any difference at all unless you needed PAE for the reason PAE...

Re: Should Mint be Put on Other Devices?

Android is based on Linux and therefore one could say that Linux, (simply by being the base for Android smartphones) is already the biggest and most popular operating system in the world. Launching a particular Mint version or Ubuntu version on a smartphone/tablet has my fullest sympathy, but it wi...

For example, do you know about this folder and what it has inside? /home/user/.config/ Yes I do and it is per user configurations not some "important system configuration files" or whatever you al lare trying to say. I can wipe out a users entire home directory right now and reboot the machine and ...

Re: How to configure the Linux Operating System.

This is my personal opinion. Linux was made with simplicity in its mind, through the time we made it complicate. Complicated things means problems. Home and system should always be ONE , because home keeps the configuration files of the system. This is just wrong and ridiculous. It makes NO differe...

Wiping out your original post to say thank you was the worst thing to do then
That isn't what he said and it isn't what he did.
Either way the first post made no sense and the second one wasn't something that would go in a support forum.

Re: Linux Mint Wine?

Just my opinion but "supported" or not using such an old version only greatens the risks. That's absurd. Risk of what? How old do you think Wine 4.0 is? Anyhoo, Mint is a stable release model. Not being able to use the very latest version of apps is part of the territory. Anyone not happy with that...

Re: Operating System not found

You started with Parrot and installed Windows after? The usual way to do so is Windows first however there are work arounds for that and a google search for windows after linux or something like that should help. The format of the USB stick wasn't the problem, I am thinking you used the wrong tool t...

Re: Moving and Renaming multiple files

What are you using to mvoe the files? For example your file manager or the terminal? The terminal it seems would just overwrite them without asking and any file manager(I am assuming that maybe you are Nemo since you didn't mention what DE you are using)that I have used always asked what I wanted to...

Re: When will GIMP 2.10.x hit the repo's? :)

Ubuntu isn't Arch. Ubuntu's repositories are stable. If you want 2.10.x, use ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp . Stable doesn't mean old or what so many people think and imply that it does. I have been using Arch off the orginal install for over a year and nothing has broken that wasn't caused from me be...

Re: Please increase Password length to more then 32 characters

I'm not competent to comment on the correlation between password length and password strength. The only element of passwords I feel somewhat competent-ish to comment on is how a password is composed in the first place is of importance. Is it some unique take on something (which helps you to remembe...

Is the system encrypted as in the linked thread? I believe the home folder is but not the whole system. I am not able to type anything in at that screen, so those commands don't work. I have reinstalled the OS. I wish I knew what I did to make this happen, to avoid it in the future. Thanks for tryi...

Re: Old Win appliances still available?

I have a Win7-32 running in a VM, but it seems to be corrupt (lot of SW and updates installed/de-installed over the years). So I’d like to try a virgin Windows 7 version in a VB-VM in Mint just for a test of an ancient SW (Dreamweaver MX). But at Mi$o developer there seems to be only the Win10 VM a...

Re: When will GIMP 2.10.x hit the repo's? :)

Learn to build things from source and there is no need to wait. Also a lot of top developers always put out a .deb package on release. I understand peoples want to use things only from the opffical repos of their chosen distro but sometimes things go a little too far making them wait for things. Iss...
