Re: Fallback mode when I view or edit photos

.xsession-errors is a file which might shed some light on what happens before the crash. cat .xsession-errors | grep -i "error" Nemo-Share-Message: 23:23:39.420: Called "net usershare info" but it failed: 'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare d...

Re: Fallback mode when I view or edit photos

I have not noticed it, but I also run Cinnamon with all the Windows Effects turned off (which might make a difference). I turned all the window effects last night and I have not been able to make the system crash tonight. I will give it a hard hit tomorrow with GIMP and see if I can reproduce the i...

Re: Fallback mode when I view or edit photos

Was a couple of weeks ago when you upgraded from LM20 to LM20.1? I actually installed the 20.1 beta, as this a recently acquired machine. If I understood what I read correctly, it should be 20.1 now. I am interested in the top portion of the reports. This is an example of that part from someone els...

Re: Linux Mint issue when I view or edit photos

What were the recent updates you installed? Check in Update Manager > View > History of Updates. This issue has been happening for a couple weeks, more so now that I am playing around with wallpapers and family photos. There must be 20+ updates since this began. What error messages or crash reports...

Re: Linux Mint issue when I view or edit photos

I don't mean to steal this thread Mod note: Good! Hang on to that thought, it's a good one. I have split off your new question into a separate topic; we do not re-use existing topics here. Thanks for your understanding! No, thank you Moem. The OP's issue was the same one I am having. I know ...

Fallback mode when I view or edit photos

I am having the same issue with my install. All was well until recent updates. I can replicate the issue when I view or edit photos. I don't mean to steal this thread but there appear to be a few threads already and I don't have a Nvidia card installed. Here are my specs: Kernel: 5.4.0-65-generic x8...

Re: Which distro do you use as a daily driver?

My daily driver is an Acer laptop with Mint 20. I use it daily as an internet machine as well as my Wine retro gaming machine. I have also been dabbling in some Python programming.

I have an HP/Compaq SFF machine with Mint 20.1 that is my HTPC.

Re: What was your most hilarious mistake on a pc?

I was cleaning my Asus 486DX266 computer one Saturday. I pulled the CPU and fan off as an assembly. After I finished cleaning the MB, I reinstalled the CPU by orienting the sticker on the fan hub. Now I had let the smoke out of electronics in the past, but nothing had ever released the amount of smo...

I would host a Muscle Car forum if I were to dedicate my near future to something. Shelby Cobras, Cobra Jet Mustangs, Yenko Camaros, 6 Pack 'Cudas and the like.

Re: Initramfs unpacking failed

Sorry for the delay in my experience and fix with this computer. The neighbour is a very paranoid individual, every time there is a spike in COVID positives it is next to impossible to get in his house. What I eventually did was install 19.3 on his system and all was good, after doing some reading o...

[SOLVEDish] Re: CPU Upgrade

I have tried all the things suggested and did not want to live without hardware acceleration. I also tried other distros that were not Ubuntu based and did not have much luck. As an experiment, I wiped the drive and installed Windoze 10 Pro and had no AMD issues. I just couldn't stand the seemingly ...

Re: CPU Upgrade

Thanks for the reply Termy. For future reference, never buy hardware without checking it's supported on your target platform. The processor I chose (5800B) is the top APU supported by my system (HP/Compaq 6305). Actually, someone mentioned a BIOS update, which is a good point. Could your BIOS just b...

[SOLVEDish] CPU Upgrade

I purchased a 'new' APU for my system figuring that four cores and a better graphics core would be a good thing. After installing the APU and starting the system I received a kernel panic and the system would not start. The bios recognizes the new APU but the system will not boot from the HDD or boo...

Re: Installing wifi Dongle in Linux Mint

I found the instructions at the TP-Link website. It is a PDF document but only mentions support for Mint 18.03 (kernel version 4.10.0-38.generic). It was easy to find using the DuckDuckGo search engine using this search string tl-wn725n v3 driver linux . You will have to compile the driver yourself....

Re: Frequent Distro Hopper Needs A Home

Welcome Rick, although I am from the Windoze universe, I feel your pain. When I left, it felt like I was leaving an old friend. It does fade away and now I use Mint exclusively. I still dip my toes in once in awhile, the extended family is stuck in the Gates world. So far I am able to accomplish eve...

Re: WiFi Dropping Out (Cudy WU1300S)

I am returning my WU1300 for driver issues. They kept 'breaking' when updating the system. I finally gave up. I have no issues with the older Intel and D-Link wireless devices I am using. I live rurally and do not have the greatest internet as it is. so it was no big deal for me to revert back to ol...

Realtek AC1300 issues

I hope this is the right place for this post. I just purchased a Cudy WU1300 USB wireless dongle to use in a 'new' HTPC build. The Realtek AC1300 chipset is not supported natively by Linux and requires the driver to be installed manually. The dongle worked well until I started doing updates to the f...

Ok, it likely did reload, but you wouldn't notice it. Time will tell if it helped or not.
So far so good. It has been a few days now and everything is working very well. I can't thank you enough for all your help sleeper12. :D
