Re: What games are you playing / are you looking forward to?
I've been 'popping' through Portal 1 and 2 the last few days. I figured, why not, they have been in my Steam library for years and I haven't played either one in many a moon. I don't remember them being so short to play through. I guess my reasoning skills have improved through the years.

Re: External USB drive problems?
I should have been a little clearer in my description. After doing a file/files transfer to the external devices, the OS finishes the transfer (100%). Although the transfer is theoretically complete, it can take up to 5 minutes for the drive to stop showing write activity (USB or external drive). I ...

External USB drive problems?
I've been having some strange external drive issues with Mint 21 since the fresh install on my new to me system. My older HP 6305 running Mint 20.2 does not have the same issues. The Toshiba drive was connected to one of the USB 3.0 ports on the HP. I just purchased a Toshiba Canvio Advance 1TB exte...

Re: What games are you playing / are you looking forward to?
Right now I am playing the original Half Life, I've been going through my old game collection. It runs so much better on Mint than Windows 10. The default Open GL driver works fantastic. I'm looking forward to getting BeamNG working as well. I just need some tweaking, I think, as they're not providi...

Re: The hot mess that Windows has become
MSI board boot priority can be altered, go to advanced settings>boot options and scroll to the bottom. You'll find BBS priority. Use + and - to change the priority of the entries. That was the first thing I tried, it didn't help. I've even rearranged the SSD cables so that the Mint drive is on the ...

Re: The hot mess that Windows has become
Windows is no different than any other OS in that if it doesn't have the appropriate drivers for your motherboard, or your graphics card, etc., you'll have problems. My experiences with doing a fresh install of Windows on DIY boxen is about a decade and a half out of date, spanning Win95 > WinXP, b...

The hot mess that Windows has become
I've recently built a new to me computer. It is fairly powerful and I even found a decent GPU to put in it for a good price. I haven't used Windows at all for a number of years. There was a time I had to for work, training and workshop manuals etc. It did the job at hand and was tolerable. I started...

Re: Mint 21--How is it working for you?
I installed Cinnamon 21 beta on my new to me PC and haven't really had any issues. I have been installing all the updates, as I do with all my systems, and am really liking the new release. My MSI B450 MB and MSI RX580 hum right along. I did have couple minor things pop up, but with the help of the ...

Re: What games are you playing / are you looking forward to?
I've been digging through my games that have been in storage for ~10 years. I have installed and am playing Crysis and Hitman 2. I am just using Wine 7.0 and everything seems to work. Any games that I haven't been able to run in Windows 10, won't run under Wine either. I have a container full of old...

It's really hard to pick just one.
One game I 'wasted' many hours on was Jane's AH64D Longbow and I flew so many missions in Jane's USAF. I really like driving games too. When the original Need for Speed came out...

Re: Error while using update manager in Mint 21
Hi Karl thanks for the information. I performed the terminal commands and got these responses. praxibetelixx@MSI-MS-7B85:~$ dpkg --print-architecture amd64 praxibetelixx@MSI-MS-7B85:~$ dpkg --print-foreign-architectures i386 1386 praxibetelixx@MSI-MS-7B85:~$ It looks like I have an issue. I did add...

Re: Happy one year Mint Cinnamon anniversary... for me
Welcome Azo I was a hardcore Windows user since 3.0. I had dabbled in Linux during the late 90s and just found it to be OK. My last Windows purchase was Vista and I jumped in with both feet, installed it on all my PCs and convinced many others to do the same. That is when I became peeved with Bill's...

Re: Error while using update manager in Mint 21
What were the errors? Errors will stop the process. The output you posted are W: (warnings). Warnings do not stop the process. There were 6 updates in the list and when I tried to update them all, the update manager said there was an error updating APT. I should have done a screen cap of the error ...

Finally a new computer
Well, new to me. :D I've been patiently doing the eBay thing and have come away with what I think is some good hardware. The total is going to be just under $500 cdn. I found an open box MSI b450 Gaming Pro Carbon Max WiFi for less than a c-note. The only bag opened was the anti-static MB bag. I fou...

[Solved] Error while using update manager in Mint 21
I fired up the new machine and there were updates. When I tried to install them I received an APT install error. It was the first item on the update list so I unchecked everything else and updated APT alone. When everything else was updated after, I received a check for broken packages message. I co...

[solved] Re: speaker output stuck on S/PDIF Mint 21
After going through the suggested troubleshooting tips, I seem to have things working again. As usual, the last item on the list got my speaker output up and running. I re-flashed the BIOS to a previous version and voila. I did have to perform the diagnosis steps a couple times but it has work...
