Re: LMDE 4

If you are in love with XFCE( I am too) just cut a partition for MX19 and be done with it. It has tools as good as minty, yet different, and is an absolute rock. LMDE is something I tell people who load Cimminimminimum on Debian straight/stable. It makes zero sense. Some dorks load Cinnamon on MX19 t...

Re: LMDE 4 cinnamon will not boot

I format my USB sticks to ext4 with gparted and let the "usb image writer" do as it pleases. I've had the fat fail numerous times formatting fat first, even with included "format usb tools".

Re: LMDE 4 “Debbie” issues

OK. Just rebooted and sorted through my grubz (MX19-ADVANCED) gave me all the recent kernels. Original was 4.19.0-6 or 4.19.0.-6 non sysd

LMDE4 is 4.19.0-8 original.
Try using synaptic in LMDE and load the 4.19.0-6 Kernel image and boot it for giggles.

Re: LMDE 4 “Debbie” issues

Can you boot into another Kernel via grub ? Check the kernel in MX and see if it's the same in LMDE4. I installed Liquorix on both systems and don't recll the originals. I'll reBoot a little later and have a look

Re: Why would I want to use LMDE vs Current LM Cinnamon?

No real reason other than being a purist like I am. Even Clem, Mint creator, praises the Ubuntu effort and well understands it's huge value. His pet, LMDE is a "what if". I agree and run it too...along with Kubuntu to play with KDE a little with a giant support group before I go "purist" with a KDE ...

Re: LMDE 4

Too bad LM pushes Cinnamon so hard, it's not really suitable for the lower income masses. Hello sdibaja, Since I'm tired of the incessant updates from Ubuntu, I switched to Debian on my two machines, My workstation with Nvidia GPU is under Cinnamon, but I gave it up for my laptop. For him, I instal...

Re: LMDE 4/Get to it

I was running it about 1/2 day or less after the BETA showed up and knew within an hour it was an incredible piece. The next morning I un-BETAd it on my machine. I since loaded on several others, nary a hiccup. I see a few hours ago (yes I have no life) that its out for real. Go get it people. This ...

I have a few nuances to learn, such as, is it sudo apt upgrade or sudo apt dist-upgrade.

Update manager.
if you want to play hack.... sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

It's my understanding that the update manager does't do kernel updates to the 5.x kernels. Is this correct?
No problem here....

Re: LMDE 4

Either not many are playing with LMDE4 Beta, or most that loaded it have zero problems(my guess).

Re: LMDE 4

Yes, that's the current intent. It begins as a Debian 10 stable and will be. The "upgrades" are tweaking the Minty tools, desktop environment etc to make it readily work flawlessly for the masses. I've already mega-tweaked my install and no longer consider it "beta". It's tweaked specifically for M...

Re: LMDE 4

I am excited for LMDE 4, but I have a couple of questions: 1) I am not 100% clear will it use the superb Mint installer which makes it painless to install or will you still have to manually partition things? 2) Will you be allowed to update to 5 series kernels (I fear my system 76 laptop will bork ...

Re: LMDE 4

I found a little hiccup where I use a picture as a wallpaper and it doesn't stick upon a reboot. I'll tinker a bit but it's no crisis at all. This thing is stable as a rock. If you run an Asus you need to add non-free and do the radeon driver kit. I did that within 1/2 hour of installation. I'm sure...

Re: Advice on partition and data storage

Open gparted and unmount the unallocated partition(if it shows as mounted) Right click that partition and format to ext4. Name it whatever you like and click the apply arrow up top. You can add whatever files you like. I named mine DATA (60 gig) and store pics and music over 20 years All those goodi...
