Re: Trying to update NVidia driver, World of Warcraft issues

Hello, Eric and SMG Thanks for your responses! Today I decided it was long past the time to upgrade from 19.3 to 20, so I did it. In the process, of course, you have to downgrade and disable those foreign programs like Wine, which I did. When Mint 20 was up and running, I had to re-install Wine. I'm...

Re: Trying to update NVidia driver, World of Warcraft issues

Addendum: Still trying to find a way to install the new NVidia 455.28 video driver onto my system. It doesn't show up yet on the Driver Manager or Update Manager. I went to the official NVidia site and downloaded the driver which left a file on my desktop called "NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-455.28.run" But ...

Trying to update NVidia driver, World of Warcraft issues [SOLVED]

Greetings, my friends! I still have Mint 19.3, 64-bit, Cinnamon, and haven't yet upgraded to Mint 20. It will probably happen soon but I've been reluctant to pull the trigger on it yet. My PC graphics card is a GTX 1070. My wife and I both play World of Warcraft (WoW) with Lutris/Wine and it was wor...

Re: Blizzard game installation issue

I think I may have solved this one. The key was in the Lutris configuration files, and I was expending a lot of wasted effort fussing with the Battle.net installer. While modifying the configuration file in Lutris I found the WoW.exe file, clicked on it, and Lutris popped up a message saying Wine wa...

[SOLVED] Blizzard game installation issue

Greetings, friends. (LM Tricia 19.3 Cinnamon) I used to play a lot of games when I had Win7. Last week, thanks to all the wonderful help I have been getting here, I finally removed my Windows partition and my machine no longer dual-boots. I'm fully onboard with Linux. Yay! So now for the gaming part...

Re: Mouse Driver Software

Hi, everyone I went back and looked again at some work-arounds and revisited the web looking for more clues. In an article I read it said that an extension called AutoScroll was made specifically for Linux and Mac users who didn't have the same scroll tool as the Microsoft crowd. I tried it and it d...

Re: Mouse Driver Software

I know exactly what you mean about the little scroll icon that lets you scroll the page continuously, my Windows PC at work operates like this. On my LM PC at home I've left the scroll-wheel at the default setting (copying selected text) and I set up the two side buttons to do a Close Tab (Ctrl + W...

Re: Mouse Driver Software

I have a 5 button rodents that "just work". That said, the wheel click, operates as a double click, the extra buttons work as forward and backward in my browsers. I have not attempted to re-map them in any way. They are all "be" branded mice (i.e. no name, but others should work like that as well)....

Re: Mouse Driver Software

...found out that the mouse wheel click has a copy and paste function. ... Maybe you have also that function without knowing it :D Hi again, HAWR I tried to use that function and it didn't work. Then I thought, "Doh! I need to take out the .xbindkeysrc command!" So I edited the file to remove it, r...

Re: Mouse Driver Software

Update: Still haven't figured out how to make the wheel button (middle click) work. Using the xte line in .xbindkeysrc allows me to put in any keystroke combo, like ctrl-shift-F7 or the like, but I don't know the magic combo to get the autoscroll icon to toggle on and off in Chrome/Chromium. I belie...

Re: Mouse Driver Software

I spent a bit of time investigating this when I wanted to get the extra buttons on my Logitech mouse working. I read https://askubuntu.com/questions/152297/how-to-configure-extra-buttons-in-logitech-mouse and https://blog.hanschen.org/2009/10/13/mouse-shortcuts-with-xbindkeys/ and managed to get it...

Re: Mouse Driver Software

Perhaps this might help? Hi, CapraFan, and thank you! I did see this in my wandering exploration around the Internet during one of my searches. It wants me to modify the xorg.conf file from the root to turn on a button by using another utility to tell me what the button number is because there's so...

Re: Mouse Driver Software

Hello, HAWR I followed your link and read through the page there until my eyes glazed over. Then I had a snack, came back and read it again. I don't think it will help me do what I want to do. I have no idea what codes to use to install the desired actions on my particular input device button config...

Re: nvidia settings for linux

Can anyone help? I'm doing the instructions exactly yet can't seem to copy and paste. I've tried countless times but it doesn't work. What the hell am I doing wrong?! Something I learned is that when you want to copy/paste from/to the terminal, you have to use Ctrl-Shift-C and Ctrl-Shift-V rather t...

Re: Removing a bad icon from start menu [SOLVED]

Forgive me, but I wanted to add one "Oh, by the way..." to this thread. I was looking at the Synaptic Package Manager. If you open that thing there's a Status button on the lower left panel. I clicked the Status and then in the upper left panel I found an entry for "Residual Config" files. I clicked...

Re: Removing a bad icon from start menu [SOLVED]

I did try your terminal command, Sleeper12, after I'd already used the Remove option from the Software Manager. I figured it couldn't hurt! Now, an amazing addendum... I rebooted one more time, and the wine-wine remnant has now vanished from the Menu Editor! Hooray!!! (I am using entirely too many e...

Re: Removing a bad icon from start menu

Progress!!! I started by using the Uninstall WINE choice on the WINE menu. It popped up a box that wanted me to uninstall the Garmin Express program and .Net framework. Neither of those things worked. I then went to the Software Manager, had it search for Wine, and it showed I had three programs: Wi...

Did you uninstall Wine?
No... I thought I might need it for something later. But it's worth a try. Going to uninstall it now. Will let you know the results.
