Re: Lmde Dual boot

Yeah I saw those posts already. Quite informative if you're doing a single boot but I just couldn't figure out how to translate that into a dual boot system. I know windows can be pretty picky about where it is on the disk. I bookmarked the thread on installing to a USB drive but I don't think that...

Bump for this. I have LMDE and these zapping sounds when booting or shutting down make me jump every time. Does anyone know why it does this and how to stop it?

Bump for OP - I am not an expert so I don't want my suggestions to fry his computer :)

Will he have any problem putting extended and logical partitions in between two primaries?

Re: Opera Browser or Chromium

http://www.opera.com/browser/download/?os=linux-x86-64&ver=11.00&local=y If you are running Mint 9 or 10, select "Distributor or Vendor" as Ubuntu, and for "Choose package format" as "Debian Package". Once it downloads you may need to click the file that downloaded to get the installer to pop up. I...

Re: Installing Linux mint on windows sys with 4 primary part

-Someone on this forum gave me this link a long time ago to make a Vista repair disk: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/how-to-make-a-windows-vista-repair-disk-if-you-dont-have-one/ -You can probably call HP and request the Vista disk...not sure. That is what I had to do with Dell for my ...

time (off by 6 hours) / correct time zone selected [solved]

For whatever reason, the time on the clock is stating it is 6 hours earlier than it really is...I have the correct timezone chosen. I dual boot, so if I change it then it seems to change my system clock which affects the time in Win7. I could just change timezones to make the time correct, but I don...

Re: Installing Linux mint on windows sys with 4 primary part

Not sure it makes a difference when doing it from the Windows side of things, but I remember when I was reading about shrinking the Win partition, to do a defrag first. So when I did mine, I deleted all temp data, then did a defrag, then did a defrag again, then rebooted, then used the shrink partit...

Re: Installing Linux mint on windows sys with 4 primary part

Logical Partitions are created in Extended Partition . It will be better if you have the Extended partition to the end. Because, once created you won't be able to change size of Extended Partition but individual logical partitions inside it can be changed. Please make a DVD copy of the Recovery par...

You forgot to mention that driving over the limit on the information superhighway has a price when you gets pulled over. It ain't going to be grandma giving you a summons or shall we say unseal a subpoena. Chromium collects everything and sends it back to guess who. If you love Big Brother get Chro...

Slow software & update network speeds - tried mirrors

Installed LMDE yesterday and initially tried to do an update and the process started, but the download speeds were in the one-digit KB/s speed. So I canceled and tried from command line - same thing. So I tried several mirrors - same thing. I waited several hours and tried again, same thing. I waite...

Rolling need a separate /home?

Since LMDE is a rolling distro, is it still recommended to have a separate /home partition? The benefit of that seemed to be for updates to later versions - so you would still have the data and settings in /home. Then the / would get a reformat and new install of latest version. But now if that is n...

Re: Not enough space in /home directory using default install

ghostgrrl, I ran intio the same issue when creating the dual boot with Vista. I first tried the side-by-side and then the default method and both allocated too little space - to where Mint itself started giving space errors. I think these should be changed in the install method to allocate more spac...

Re: Installing L Mint 7 on new laptop running Vista

I have Vista too and there is an XP label in one of my partitions...I don't think he has XP. Assuming you are trying to dual-boot, follow the instructions in the below link to create space for Mint from your Vista 143GB partition: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/working-around-windows-v...
