Re: Lost GRUB2 after HP updates inside Windows
Yes, I realize you wrote the post and credits go to JeremyB . Also I changed things, that I changed, to reflect the distro I'm using. Two efi boot partitions was unexpected. I had recently installed Mint20, which installed as ext2 without any flags, and worked flawlessly. But when I went back to LMD...

Re: Lost GRUB2 after HP updates inside Windows
Never seen a Fat32 boot partition, much less one flagged boot/esp. I too was surprised that the LMDE4 installer chose Fat32 for /boot, after I tried multiple times for an ext2 partition with no flags. It continued to complain until I settled for what you see in the screenshot. The scheme was workin...

Re: Lost GRUB2 after HP updates inside Windows
Question:
Mind you, /boot has it's own partition, and is installed there, so....
Shouldn't that be /boot (/dev/sda8) instead of /root (/dev/sda10), to reinstall grub-efi, because the GRUB bootloader resides in /dev/sda8?

Re: Lost GRUB2 after HP updates inside Windows
One thing I forgot was, one of the updates was a BIOS update from v.44 to v.45, and the other a graphics driver update.

Lost GRUB2 after HP updates inside Windows
Lost the ability to dual boot using GRUB. Windows bootloader now manages all aspects of boot, with NO mentiion of GRUB or anything Linux Debian. All has been running as it should, GRUB managing all aspects of the boot process, with GRUB Customizer installed and set to "boot from last". The...

Re: Move from Linux Mint 20 to LMDE 4
I run both W10/LMDE4 in a dual boot HP laptop During the LMDE4 install you will format the some partitions, such as, "/boot",and "/", but do not format "/home". Also LMDE4 runs a lessor 4.19 kernel, whereas Mint20 uses a 5.4 or a5.6 kernel, and most softeware will be 1-...

Re: There seems to be a programming error in aptdaemon...
I think the whole install is somehow corrupted, because it no longer boots into Mint, but W10 still boots. Once it starts to boot from GRUB, it goes to "HP" logo, then to "LM" logo, and finally to "BusyBox". How do I get past this? https://i.postimg.cc/sBgCd8nR/Busy-Box...

There seems to be a programming error in aptdaemon...
Just moved from LMDE4 to Mint20 last night, but having a difficult time updating software. ScrnSht of error produced, https://i.postimg.cc/L8vGMP8D/An-unhandlable-error-occured-2020-09-14-11-19-58.png The thin "Details" line contains, Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/...

Re: LMDE4 freezes from time to time
Yes, Mike.... Both OS's are installed on the same SSD, an ADATA SU760 512GB, it's the only drive in this laptop. The ScrnSht above shows my partition scheme, W10 using the first 6 partitions and LMDE4 using the last 4. This machine was booted into LMDE4, most all day yesterday, and all last night, b...

Re: LMDE4 freezes from time to time
Would a kernel update to 5.4 or 5.5 perhaps improve the stability, and eliminate the freezes?
I'm currently at 4.19, I think, whatever came stock in the ".iso".

Re: LMDE4 freezes from time to time
My LMDE4 is basically stock, with a few things added. It did this when running in the "Live" mode from the USB stick, before the install. I thought this would stop once it was installed, but this has not been the case.... It still happens from time to time. Sometimes with FFx running, some...

LMDE4 freezes from time to time
I find no references to this, elsewhere in the forum, but.... I have a dual-boot W10/LMDE4 on this laptop and get LMDE4 freezes from time to time. Nothing I can put my finger on causing it, and cannot reproduce it, but when it does the hard shutdown is all that works. I kinda suspect the Intel integ...

Re: Lmde install alongside Windows 10
I took a little different route with the partitioning scheme. W10 and LMDE have their own boot partitions, you just specify which boot loader will be your default. Choose W10's boot loader and W10 will be the default OS with LMDE the 2nd choice. Choose LMDE's boot loader and LMDE is the default OS, ...

Re: How to move boot option to top of list
This thread is the answer to my post: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=1672630#p1672630 I did not have to move "OS BOOT MANAGER" to the top of the list; only highlight it, hitting enter opens another window with options; 1. Windows, and 2. Debian. You highlight "Debian&quo...
