Re: [Finished With This Topic] Have You Ever Tried To Take a PC Back To Windows?

You would be well served finding a local community center or college offering some basic computer classes. Some are even free. Not at this point in my life. I am working full time trying to keep our business aflot and when possible, profitable. Your suggestion is on my "Someday" list. A g...

Re: Have You Ever Tried To Take a PC Back To Windows?

Hi @JTemple Have you considered burning an installation DVD? No, I'm fairly sure it would not go any better than the preferred USB method. I am fairly sure my BIOS is messed up in some way, starting with the lack of a secure boot option to turn on or off. Turning off secure boot is key to getting t...

Re: [SOLVED] Driver Manager Offerings / What to Do

:D @zcot , @ MartyMint , @SMG , Thank you all VERY MUCH! You have invested a lot of thought and energy in helping me understand what my system is about and I am grateful. So, I can simply leave well enough alone and my regular updates will take care of everything. At least that is what I am understa...

"Multi-Display" means both gpu's are active.
And Now, back to the original question in the post, Which, if any of the driver updates would I want to install?

Re: [SOLVED] Driver Manager Offerings / What to Do

I thought I had gone through every branch of the tree but maybe I missed video, anyway here is that branch: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/728xmulzkof44y6/AADeeaUC1oYwXrnQp5YebC-Ca?dl=0 That is the same link as you posted earlier and it does not look like more photos were added? Was it supposed to be a...

Re: [SOLVED] Driver Manager Offerings / What to Do

I don't need to tell you that photos of the entirety of the BIOS could not be posted here so I loaded them into drop box. There are 43 pics showing every bios option / setting. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/728xmulzkof44y6/AADeeaUC1oYwXrnQp5YebC-Ca?dl=0 That is dedication to post all those. Do you hav...

Re: [SOLVED] Driver Manager Offerings / What to Do

That is dedication to post all those. Do you have any photos of the "Video" section? I didn't notice them. #14 was the last of System Configuration and #15 was the Secure Boot section. One thing I did notice is the front USB ports are 3.0. I presume the rear USB ports are 2.0. That might ...

Re: Yah! Photoprint is back!

I think it's only there because you installed it from elsewhere. According to this page , it's still not avaiable in focal that Mint 20 is based on. Too Bad, it's the simplest, most basic printing app going. Ah, Well, sorry for the misleading report! I suppose if I ever decide to remove it I'll hav...

Re: [SOLVED] Driver Manager Offerings / What to Do

The situation in my setup is now as clear as mud, to me. So, would things be made more clear if I went in and photographed relevant areas of my BIOS tree. Yes. There is variation on how hardware manufacturers handle this type of situation, so knowing exactly what you have will help us be able...

Photoprint is NOT back

Photoprint is back in software manager LM20. When I first loaded LM20, Photoprint was gone and I had to download and install it manually. I was looking through graphics apps today and to my surprise, it's back in software manager. Just thought I'd mention it. :D
I was mistaken here. Sorry!

Re: [SOLVED] Driver Manager Offerings / What to Do

Wanna bet that secure boot is enabled? ODDLY, when I went to DELL support, DELL wanted secure boot ENABLED to install a new OS, and they do have a page with instructions for installing Linux systems. THEY WERE INCORRECT about their own system. I tried to load LM2 4 times! twice with ...

Re: [SOLVED] Driver Manager Offerings / What to Do

The situation in my setup is now as clear as mud, to me. So, would things be made more clear if I went in and photographed relevant areas of my BIOS tree. It is set up in a tree format and I can use the mouse in there. It appears there is some slight confusion as to what is going on inside the...

Re: [SOLVED] Driver Manager Offerings / What to Do

This is what SMG means: The cord at #1 can be plugged into connector #2. And without even changing anything, that would offer better performance. Shut it down. Move that cable. Reboot. Promo-EmailAndBlog-Email Header2.jpeg You can go further than that. But at the least, that alone would be better. ...

STOP

USE THE GRAPHICS OUTPUT ON THE ADDED GPU, NOT THE MOTHERBOARD OUTPUT.
PLEASE EXPLAIN! I am not technically advanced to say the very least! I don't understand what you're telling me or how to make said change.

Re: [SOLVED] Driver Manager Offerings / What to Do

@zcot I am presently stck using the HMDI connection becaus that is the cable that came with my new monitor and I stuck my old monitor on the old Lenovo. I I doubt I "the Nvidia card is irrelevant in this setup, -you can take it out and put it in a drawer" It does appear from the specs link...

Re: Driver Manager Offerings / What to Do

-- Is your monitor connected to the igpu (Intel) or the gpu (Nvidia) ports? That's what I was wondering about. Monitor to motherboard graphics port, or monitor to GPU graphics port? How would I be able to know without opening the case. I looked around bios but that did not enlighten me and maybe I ...

Re: Driver Manager Offerings / What to Do

So, after all of that, is it to say I don't really need any of those drivers? Would I be better off using a VGA monitor connection? My monitor only has the 2 options VGA or HMDI. What ever, if it's not broken I am not about to fix it!

Re: Driver Manager Offerings / What to Do

Sounds like you're better off sticking with what you have then, which I'm guessing is the Nouveau one. The driver suggestions can be entirely ignored, frankly. The issues you had were probably solved long ago when the kernel (many drivers therein) got updated a bunch of times. I'm not jumping at an...

Re: Driver Manager Offerings / What to Do

Driver Manager suggests I download drivers for the cleanly install sdystem. The last time I did so, well that was where all previous troubles began. So of the following, what should I SAFELY choose? Thank You for any advice. Screenshot from 2020-11-14 14-55-44.png What were the "previous troub...
