Re: Mint v19.3 audio popping
no problem --- I'm sure a solution will pop up eventually! this is a fresh install btw, few days old ubuntu 20.04 kernel 5.4.0-52-generic OS runs fabulously fast/stable with low CPU temp, no TLP changes was getting very inefficient results with lin mint 18 cinnamon -- I believe I had tried 2 kernels...

Re: Mint v19.3 audio popping
very interesting thinking! installed also tools and ran sudo hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x21 SET_PIN_WIDGET_CONTROL 0x40 Shutdown boom remains, and startup boom remains as expected Btw, boom is same (beyond max loud) regardless of my OS volume settings, def capable of physical damage to diaphragm. My ...

Re: Mint v19.3 audio popping
Correct MrEen, tried again on my current setup --- driver 2 gives no audio at all, drivers 3,4,5 give same pop/boom/buzz as driver 1. Actually with driver 3 the buzz just holds until I shut down the computer --- so this isn't an issue with overlooking level fades, since that would just be one discre...

Oh very nice --- wonder when it will be integrated with stable kernel release for general purpose audio (ie., incl. simple playback in browser)

Re: Mint v19.3 audio popping
Might be worth the kernel devs' time to rebuild and refine linux system audio That actually is happening ... again! interesting, thanks for the info! is there somewhere I can read more about this dev stream? Linux generally is such a stable and predictable OS, which is *exactly* what one wants in a...

Re: Mint v19.3 audio popping
Hi again jalin, Thank you, I will do that Audio seems like a bit of an afterthought in linux land -- even if there was a primetime-ready pro-audio workstation (like Ableton, Cubase, Protools, Logic, etc) I feel like the kernel may not be up to snuff to run it cleanly. Rule number one, bring down yo...

Re: Mint v19.3 audio popping
Hi MrEen, you may be interested to know I recently switched to Ubuntu 20.04 kernel 5.4.0-52 and having the exact same horrendous boom/buzz issues with this laptop (dell XPS 13 2019) Thankfully, I came back to this thread and did the two main things you discovered/recommended: sudo tee /etc/modprobe....

Re: Mint v19.3 audio popping
no worries re power mgmt
just had another incident, not sure if this helps -- but when the laptop is unplugged with speakers plugged, can be watching something on VLC. Then once pausing the video, after about 20 seconds with the laptop unplugged, a constant boom/buzz kicks in

Re: Mint v19.3 audio popping
Quite interesting... so I did exactly as instructed, and inputs and outputs are correct and working in Sound menu (thank you) However, upon reboot, I get a constant boom buzz, regardless of dsp_driver. I had this issue previously only on 3 *However* upon going into the Sound menu to look at inputs a...

Re: Mint v19.3 audio popping
dsp_driver=3 gives a continous boombuzz as before
in quite a pickle now... drivers 2, 1, and 0 all now also give no output - as well as no input

Re: Mint v19.3 audio popping
I seem to have created a new issue... in both dsp_driver=0 and 1, my laptop speakers are working fine... but my onboard mic is not working
In the Sound menu I see 3 different mic devices under the Input section, but all of them have their volume bars greyed out and fixed at zero level
