New motherboard woes

Eventually "bit the bullet" and upgraded my ageing PC. Now I find that, while I can install Mint, I can't access the internet, don't have sound and can't change graphic details (I have 3 monitors). I'm assuming that this is a driver issue, but don't how, or if, I can update these. I have an Asrock F...

Mint 11 and EEPC 701

I have an EEPC 701 (with 4GB SSD) and wanted to update to Mint 11. The install screen requires 4.4Gb for it to install and run so it won't fit. I noted that Ubuntu 11.04 has an alternate install that does away with the graphical install and allowed me to install and run it on the EEEPC. Personally I...

Re: Netgear SC101 NAS

DrHu, thanks for the response. I bought the SC101 as I had a couple of spare IDE drives and no space within my case for any more (got 6 installed). I wanted to use it as an additional storage / backup system using two 80Gb IDE discs. I have downloaded the latest install program and can currently com...

Netgear SC101 NAS

I've just bought a Netgear SC101 NAS to use for additional back-up for my Mint 10 / 11 system. It looks like a toaster - and at the moment performs similarly. I've searched the internet and installed a program sc101-nbd.0.03. I've followed instruction from the internet and managed to get it to recog...

Re: Samsung CLP315 Laser printer

Just thought I'd post an update - Version 10 and 11 of Mint correctly identified my printer and it works brilliantly - result

Samsung CLP315 Laser printer

I have a Samsung CLP315W laser printer on my home network. My daughter's Mint 7 system correctly identified the network printer as a CLP315 and set up perfectly (she's overjoyed!) My Mint 8 system recognised it as a CLP310 printer and set it up. Unfortunately, it won't print properly; I get a printe...

Re: Linux Mint 8 RC1 Bug Thread

Not sure if these are bugs or just me being stupid! 1. In Firefox the option to save passwords does not popup when I type one in. The option appears to be enabled but doesn't work. 2. I have two monitors connected to my PC - in Mint 7 I could choose which monitor had the menu bar on it.In Mint 8 it ...

Mint 7 and EEEpc

I've just installed Mint 7 RC1 on my eepc (the original 701 with 4Gb SSD) It worked straight "out of the box" including wi-fi and camera. Looks great too!

Re: Dual Booting Problems - Resolved

I disconnected all but one of my drives and installed Windows to this. I then added my second drive and installed Mint. When I rebooted all worked OK I then added the two data drives. All works well. I'm happy again and can sleep at night! Thanks Fred for your help on this - it's great to know that ...

Re: Dual Booting Problems

Thanks Fred. I tried what you suggested and got the same NTLDR error. I took out my SATA drives and reinstalled my PATA drives - these have ALWAYS worked fine - until now. GRUB does not recognise Windows. I added WIndows to the menu.lst and it lists Windows on boot. However, when I click on it I get...

Re: Dual Booting Problems

Thanks for the reply Fred. I tried your suggestion and received the response that the NTLDR could not be found. I understand that this is a boot loader for Windows. Does this mean that I need to reinstall Windows or can I get round it. I've been using Mint for a couple of years now and never come ac...

Dual Booting Problems

My system uses 4 SATA discs which Mint recognises as sda, sdb, sdc and sdd. I want to install my system as sda - Mint 6 sdb - Back-up data sdc - Windows XP sdd - Back-up data I first installed Windows to sdc (Windows recognised this as C:) I then installed Mint 6 to sda Mint runs OK; Windows was not...

Re: Can't install mint after update.

Tried to install again. Still no luck getting this to work. By now I am thoroughly peed off. If I had known that this motherboard was not compatible I'd never have bought it - maybe I should return it to the supplier as not suitable for use - although it works fine with the 'other OS' I'm a great lo...

Can't install mint after update.

After my old motherboard died I bought and fitted a replacement. It's a Biostar P4M900-M4 board that uses my old P4 chip so that replacement wasn't too hard on the pocket. Once I had changed the board and upgraded the memory to DDR2 I tried to reinstall Mint 6 on my machine. Unfortunately, the live ...

Re: Permissions (Solved)

After much hassle and beating of chest I solved it. Fired up WIndows and reformatted my drives as NTFS not FAT32 (I saved the data first and then copied it back - always thinking!) Then when I edited fstab it worked!! UUID=A0D45FA0D45F780C /media/MUSIC ntfs-3g rw,user,auto,exec,utf8 0 0 UUID=1014712...

Re: Permissions

Thanks Fred, I tried your suggestion - but it didn't work. I clicked on sdd under /media and received the following message "running Xfe as root". Clicking on OK gave me the message "Mount point /home/paul/.gvfs is not responding" Clicking on OK took me to Xfe - looks like explorer Right clicking on...

Re: Permissions

I have three drives - I can see them all but cannot write to the second or third drive (sdd and sde). I've automounted sdd and can access the files read-only. Additionally, I can't copy files to the drive as I don't have permissions. I just want to be able to access and edit the files on sdd. Hope t...

Permissions

I'm having trouble with permissions when accessing separate hard disks on my PC. I have my main hard disk with Mint 5 on it and then a further two SATA drives which are divided each into four partitions (Music,Download,Documents,Photos) - one is a backup of the other. I've managed to automount the f...

Problem Solved

Problem solved! As I had assumed, this was a hardware problem. I have six hard disks on my system; 2 IDE, 2 SATA and 2 IDE running off a PCI card. When I turned off the two IDE drives that are on the PCI card all ran smoothly. At last Daryna on my PC. Early indications are that it is an improved ver...
