Re: Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” Cinnamon released!

There will be a way to update to 18 from the Update Manager, but it hasn't been released yet. Probably be a couple of weeks from what I hear, but who knows? I've only been using Mint since 2007, and I think importing these upgrades into the Update Manager was one of the best decisions this team eve...

Re: Switched HD Into Another Laptop, Nvidia Not Detected

Did a fresh install over / and /home, still no change. Any WINE games are showing up garbled.

My graphics information is listed here, and help at all would be hugely appreciated, thanks.

VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) That is Intel graphics, not Nvidia . . they do not provide proprietary graphics drivers, open source is your only choice. Switched HD Into Another Laptop, Nvidia Not Detected

Hey all! I remember having this problem once before, but for the life of me can't remember how to fix it. So when one of my HP laptops whitescreened on me, I took out its hard drive and put it in another laptop (an HP nx7300 to be exact). Everything works beautifully apart for the fact that it does ...

Re: Kworker And You

Strange indeed if only boot order, however default setting for a BIOS will also affect bus timing , caching and a few other items Timing would be my guess for the application within the OS.. There were indications in this ongoing bug report - itself with some good solutions - that it often is conne...

Kworker And You

So, not too long ago I started wondering why my laptop sounds like a hairdryer at full power if I have so much as the browser open. I would open system monitor but could find no processes that would account for whatever was causing this. Funnily enough, after adding a top processes entry to my Conky...

Re: Linux Mint 14 "Nadia" released!

Using Mint 14 Cinnamon, and though it's been a while since I've posted on this forum, I'd thought I'd share some thoughts/advice: 1. I think Cinnamon is to Gnome 3 as Windows 7 is to Vista - an improvement on a broken original that still maintains the eye candy. 2. I strongly advise (newcomers espec...

Re: Desktop Screenshots Thread - June 2012

Running Mint 13 MATE, using a fairly simple Conky with scripts for both Gmail and the lunar phases. The theme combines the AwOken icon set with the Clearlooks theme, the Mint-X window border and some tweaking with the colors. Click for fullsize:

Re: Linux Mint 13 "Maya" released!

Been a while since I posted on this forum, although I've been using Mint since Mint 3 and - apart from a brief affair with Mandriva that ended badly - have been using Mint ever since. Felt I'd like to contribute some feedback here, for what it's worth. First off, thank you so much for dropping Gnome...

Re: Linux Mint 11 "Katya" released!

Been using Mint since the third release, and Katya is my favorite so far. Not just because it boots fast and is super-responsive, on top of all the other goodies the Mint Team has added. This is also the first release where I actually liked the default theme enough to keep it (OK, I changed the icon...

Here you go then; an authoritative link:- http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=1581 and I quote from there:- Upgrade instructions: * To upgrade from a previous version of Linux Mint follow these instructions. * To upgrade from Linux Mint 10 RC, simply apply any level 1 and 2 updates (if any) available in t...

OK, I'm going to ask again on this page, since it went unanswered on the previous one: When can we expect to see Level 1 and Level 2 updates on MintUpdate for those of us who want to upgrade from Mint 10 RC to Mint 10 without having to download another .iso, burn another disc, and do another fresh ...

Re: Linux Mint 10 "Julia" released!

I still haven't seen any Level 1 or Level 2 updates coming in (except for today, an update for mintUpdate), so I'm wondering when those of us who don't want to download, burn a new CD, and do a completely fresh install in order to upgrade are going to see these updates. Thanks.

Correct. :D
In that case, I too case my vote with "awesome release". Nice work, all!

Re: Skype: Others Can See My Cam, I Can't See Theirs (Solved

The really weird thing? My machine hates nvidia 173. It makes the config app crash if I try to make changes such as fixing the aspect ratio. However, with 173 already installed, I went ahead and installed nvidia common. Now both Skype and the nvidia config app work fine. Looking in Synaptic, both 17...

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC

I have it installed now, and I'm pretty happy with it. One thing though: why do I have a keyboard icon in my notification area? When I click this icon, I can see what layout I'm using and switch to another one, but I can already switch layouts with Left Alt. So it's pretty useless having this icon h...
